Part of the issue certainly is the chrome (of which I am not a fan) but the other issue is coming from the hood. I'm not sure if I can get vinyl covers for the chrome on the mirrors or what, but during certain times of the day the glare is blinding!

The hood glare seems to be a bigger challenge to get rid of. I wonder if there are custom vinyl pieces that would fit on the inside of the hood indentations.

Interesting. Didn't realize ceramic would cut down the glare or reflections. I will check that out!

Hood glare driving into the morning sun on the way to work was brutal. Good set of polarized sun glasses fixed the problem and are always in the truck now.

For the hood I put a matt wrap on the center part and that solved the glare issue

I'm going to 2nd what breathing borla said, ceramic window tint film. You don't have to go dark if that's not your thing or legal where you are but it makes a huge difference.

If you don't, what did that cost you?

I wear contacts, and my eyes are very sensitive to bright sun light. The hood glare is awful at times, even with good sunglasses. It makes me question Toyota's R&D. Surely someone noticed this problem during testing.

I've had my 1794 for more than a year now, and didn't notice any glare issues. No problems seeing the display either.

I've got 99 problems with mine but glare ain't one...

    Are you wearing sunglasses?

I don't tend to wear sunglasses, and when I get the glare it's never because of sun out front of the truck so I wouldn't be wearing them anyway. It's just certain times of the day when turning or with the sun hits the hood just right that it happens and it's blinding! I am not light sensitive and don't tend to wear sun glasses very often, but now I will have to start. :)

I just remembered of your post when driving from work today. It was very sunny with sun directly into my eyes.

I always wear sun glasses while driving unless it's starting to getting dark, or if it's very gloomy...

I did see the reflection from the passenger mirror that you're taking about, and after trying hard, I also saw reflection from the hood (I didn't wash my truck in a year after applying ceramic coating) so I probably don't get as much reflection lol

Anyway, sunglasses completely take care of any reflections for me, but yes, if I didn't wear sun glasses then it would be pretty miserable with sun into my eyes :bananadead::welder:

The shop I took mine to uses Rayno brand.

I put 20% on sides with 50% on backs (to get them to match pretty close) in "Phantom S9" which was their highest grade ceramic (92% heat blocking) for $575
I went back the following week to have 50% S5 (lowest grade ceramic @ 50%) for $175

No regrets, I was concerned about 50% being too dark for nighttime driving, but with everyone's blinding level of LED headlights these days it's worth the tradeoff vs being temporarily blinded when oncoming cars shine in my eyes and they don't even have their brights on. Our model 3 has 70% from another shop and you can't even really tell it's on there, but this shop only carried 70% in the highest price film.

Main reason I went w/ the lowest level of tint on the windshield is replacement cost if the glass gets cracked down the road. Cost options were $175/$275/$375. the only negative is I didn't realize the S5 is a "black" color tint where the S9 is "Smoke", so they are different tint levels obviously, but the hue or color tone to them is also slightly different - you'd have to be pretty picky (I am) to notice, and even more picky (I'm not) to be really bothered by it - but it's worth mentioning. If I did it again tomorrow, I'd prob keep all my choices the same.

When you find a tint shop you are going to use, just lookup the tint they use in advance and ensure the heat blocking is in the range you want (90%+ for super effective). People will split hairs over brand and Rayno isn't super high end or raved about on the tinting forums but these days any of these mid and top tier brands are going to last the life of the truck w/ a good install they won't fade or bubble down the road. I've had 4 vehicles tinted in the past 5 years at 4 different shops and the most important thing to me was quality of install - Thankfully the Tundra has the best quality install of the 4, which is why I had the windshield done after I saw what the doors and rears looked like.

... Back to your original post, it would probably help your sun reflection issue pretty well. Makes the truck look significantly better (IMO), and blocks a ton of heat for summer time.

A color matched vinyl wrap for the exact areas in OP would solve the issue. I also dislike the glare from those spots, but it seems like the only option so far will be to buy a vinyl for the whole hood and cut out the middle. I also haven't found paint-matched vinyl, yet.
