Still very happy after with my 21

Have had a great time with my 21 SR5. Don't have all the bells and whistles as other but still a Happy Camper approaching 20K!

Good to hear! I for one HATE bells and whistles, so I consider you lucky to not have too many.

 

I don’t use half of the options that I have on my 21. I’m on the low mileage end by not driving mine in the winter and just got my 1st dealer oil change at 2650 miles.

 

33K on my 2020 SR5. The SR5 is the best dollar value if you want to "build" or do alot of mods when it comes to these trucks.

 

Pretty happy with mine as well. Hopefully the last truck I ever buy. If no choice, I will be going pre Y2K or taking an Uber.

 

Being a COVID build, my truck has some quirks that are a bit annoying, but I have no doubt the powertrain will be very reliable and serve me well. I just rolled over 50K last week. The more I drive it, the more I like it.

 

What types of quirks are you experiencing

 

Truck runs well, no complaints here. Approaching 30k. Almost time for some extended PMs, F&R differential and transfer case fluid change.

 

Agreed. I would start with an SR, if it weren't for the tree shifter.

I have a 21 sr5 and bought it because it was what I woukd call the last true truck made.

 

I went from a 2017 SR to 2021 SR5 and there was just that little bit extra which I wanted (intermittent wipers haha, Carplay, fog lights, pass through rear window for 12ft/16/ft wood). Plus I think like many of you I wanted to reset my miles to get the very last V8 tundra. I got into a highly optioned XLT rental 2021 F150 a while back and it took me 2-3 minutes to figure out how to turn off the hazard lights, there are likely 3-4x the buttons in that cab than a SR5 2021 Tundra.

 

Love my 21 DC Limited. Just rolled over 14k miles, got my last Toyotacare free oil change. Hopefully will get to start driving it more next spring if I can beat this cancer. Bought a boat to pull with it, but its never been in the water lol.

 

Fit and finish. I had to adjust the front drivers door and door check and the rear passenger door. There were a couple of trim pieces loose.

The AC duct towards the rear has kinked and affecting air flow.

The A/C blower bearings went out after a year and had to replace that early.

The needle bearing needed to be replaced because of poor casting of the diff carrier.

The JBL speakers/sound system sounds like crap compared to our 2014 Limiteds JBL system.

The general fit and finish of the truck feels loose compared to our 2014 Sequoia. It’s hard to describe. Quirks is not the right word, more like issues.

 

Bought my 21 in Nov 2020. 33k miles on it now. (Would be less if i didnt hav to park my daily for a while to do some maintenance/repairs). Zero issues. I love driving it. My only regret is not buying the Cement color (i got MGM). I want it so bad if i can find a gently used one ill probably buy it and sell mine to my dad

 

I'm loving my 21 DC Midnight black (aka: Bat truck). I've had it about 2 months and am very pleased with the truck. Not too fancy, rides like a Cadillac and I can do ‘truck stuff’ with it.

 

Mine has a few as well. Only 27K on the clock. Terrible rattle in the dash that is even worse when cold, fixed the TRD skid plate "pop,rattel,creek" issue.

 

oh man I have that annoying rattle in mine too.
94,000kms on mine….drivers seat does the annoying click/rock as well.

 

Click/rock is the seat frame bottom! Dealer replaced mine under warranty

 

I’ve taken it to two dealers and they both play stupid that they can’t get the click to happen. I can grab the back of the seat and make it rock right in front of them too.
Newest truck I’ve owned, bought used and got the fancy warranty as well…gotta figure out how to use it now haha.

 

I actually had to bypass the service manager and get it to a tech directly. In my case it had the most play when the seat was raised to its maximun height. In the beginning they told me it was the lumbar support. I told them that I wanted to document the seat frame was checked so that if I had an accident related to the seat breaking they would have a major issue. I can look for the related service apaperwork if you need more info.

 

Oh good idea, I’ll try and get a tech to check it. The monkeys behind the service counter like to think they know stuff, but realistically they’re nothing more than people hired off the street. It’s frustrating dealing with them.

 

For me, the SR is the best bang for buck. The only things it doesn't have that I want are heated seats, int wipers and fog lights. Already added the heated seats, fogs are in the mail and the wiper stalk will be next. All relatively inexpensive and easy to install. Plus, it comes with no badges, no chrome and the interior plastic is all black. All things I prefer. Oh, and I actually like the front bench setup and column shifter over the console shifter.
And the fact that it's a little cheaper than the SR5 trim just makes it that much sweeter.
For me, anyway.

 

I'd much rather have a '21 over the '22+

 

Oh man if I had a rattle I would get rid of it. My 21 only has 20k miles knock on wood

You should be changing your oil once a year at a minimum regardless of mileage. It will help your engine last longer. Oil breaks down over time, so be careful.
