Whooo, bed is almost dialed! Bedrug... Check!

I've always run toppers in the past, went a new direction with this one.
At 60 it's getting a little harder to crawl around in a camper shell, plus I occasionally need to haul something taller than the shell.

Got the shiny new (to me) '19, then got the tonneau...
Then the racks...
Full bedrug went in today, and ditched the drop-in plastic bedliner. (Hate those!)

So much nicer, especially having a little bit of cushion for my old skateboarder knees when I need to crawl around in there.

I think my surfboards will be very happy.

Ran the tonneau drain hoses out of the bed, ran power into the bed, just need to wire up and install the 12V receptacle and USB's and I'm set!

 

Got the 12V receptacle and USB installed... Yay! No more running the extension cord out the back window. I use a portable shower after surfing so at least a couple times a week I'm plugging something in. This will make life much easier.

I originally planned to flush mount them but decided to forego cutting holes in the bed (and brand new bedrug) pulling taillight out, etc.

Just used a PVC Junction box and some paint I had in the garage that matched okay.

 

Someone in another thread asked if I did a write-up on this, so...

I sell fasteners to the camper shell place down the street from my work. I sell them to him for basically no profit precisely so he hooks me up in return. When I bought the Bedrug from them, he installed it super cheap and I had him run me the power & ground to the bed. (No Charge)

everything I used is from the electrical aisle at Home Depot.

Single Gang junction box (Kinda wishing I'd used a two gang, 'cuz it was a little tight and now I'm wanting to add strip lights in the bed, so another switch) I painted the box (badly, I was in a hurry) with some paint I had in the garage.



The brackets attaching the J-Box to the bedrail are just Home Depot two-hole conduit straps

that I flattened and re-bent in my vise to the shape I needed.

Drilled two holes in the bedrail for one end of the strap and two in the J-Box for the other end.

You can see the two little buttonhead sockets in the bedrail in this pic... since I work for a fastener distributor it's easy to find just the right size. I opted for Stainless w/Black Oxide finish.



I really like the setup @dittothat posted in another thread, and the junction boxes he linked are much nicer, and available in lots of different sizes.

That being said... anything beyond very basic electrical is admittedly not my strong suit and (not counting the wiring and loom from battery to bed) I'm probably $25 all in with this.
My original plan was the flush mount the outlet(s) in the bed wall, but this is probably more weatherproof, and saved me from drilling holes in the bed.

It is more than a knee saver...

At 61 and having lived a rough and tumble life of surf, skate, bike, snowboard, etc. it's getting really hard to sit cross legged long enough to do projects like this, but I'm pretty happy with the results, and look forward to not needing a flashlight to find stuff in the bed.

I've heard complaints about the adhesive on these strips but it seemed pretty good. I cleaned the surface well with rubbing alcohol so we'll see.
I orignally thought it was gonna go under the bed rails, but I opted to go under the BakFlip tonneau rails instead. The strips are about 4" longer than the OEM bed rails whereas the whole strip fits under the tonneau rail.

Also added some tiedown rings to the rails.

I like that set up with the Bakflip and the Elevate rails. Does your truck bed get wet with the Bakflip?

Most any tonneau except for the hard one piece cap style is gonna' let a little water in.
It lets in a very little bit of water just in the back corners if it rains continuously or I go through the car wash, but not much. Like, it's not even really "wet", just kinda damp. The rest stays nice and dry.

The bedrug is made of Polypropylene and doesn't absorb the water or mildew. I just rub a rag or towel around and it dries super fast.

 

And here's one of the reasons I love the bedliner...
Drove home from a Costco run, probably 6 or 7 miles and except for the paper plates falling over, nothing has moved!

With the drop in plastic that used to be in the truck all that stuff would have been everywhere.
