275/65/20 or 275/60/20 on 3rd Gen

The AT3 4S? Yea, I find them so grippy on pavement that I'm not able to get them to slip at all on take off from a stop, even when turning which typically one can get the inside rear tire to squeal or slip a bit. Have not tried that more than 2-3 times, so surely there is some pavement surface they will slip. But so far they are quite impressive.

on stock platinum wheels, modded center caps and lugs, love the set-up so far

no, I really don't do off-road anymore, that's why I went with the 4S model, better on road performance while still looking nicer and handle maybe the boat ramps and gravel roads better, but that's about it for me, no off-roading.

I had the AT3 XLT on my 2016 tundra which is the same line but the more aggressive AT, and I didnt want to go that Load E route again.

 

Interesting. Besides a MPG hit, did you have any other dislike with the load E? Was it stiffer ride or steering?

 

stiffer ride for sure, I wanted to get the best ride I could with as little trade off as possible this time around.

I had load E type off road tires every time in the past, STMaxx, etc, I guess Im getting old, lol, wanted smooth and nice ride this time with close to stock weight as well.

I did want a little bigger and better looking than stock and I think I got that with these. P-rated is fine for me this time around

 

running goodyear duratrac p-rated 275/60R20 on fuel 1 piece flame 6 candy apple red tint wheels. suspension is stock.

 

Love the red center cap and lug mod. Where did you find those?

I went with 275/60/20 Nito Recon Grappler. They look awesome and fit perfectly, however they cost me 2L/100km in fuel efficiency.

I went with 275/60/20 115h Nokian Outpost nAT . All season with the snow flake rating. 60 mph and under they are silent. 60 over they pick up some hum but I dont think they are any lounder than factory, just a different pitch.

 

Has anyone found a 275/65R20 that wasn’t E rated? I don’t need AT tires, and a 265/60 isn’t a big enough change to justify getting new shoes before the OEMs wear out.

 

there are no p rated 34s I have ever seen.

my 275/60/20 is the largest P rated tire I think there is at 33"

its not worth all that extra weight and harsher ride for 1" to go to 34" IMO.

if your going to go load E, just go up to 35s.

eitherway, they are ALOT heavier than stock, even my P rated 33's are 44 lbs and stock is 38lbs

 

Both pirelli and nitto make a p rated 275/65r20 they both weigh around 46 to 48lbs ish

100% sure. Also a neat hack if price is an issue, those pirellis come stock on the off road package for the Rivian truck so if you check eBay you can get take offs for about $150/ea per tire in nearly new condition.

 

Update to my post. The bozos at the tire store had max pressure in the tires. As I dont carry weight i droped every tire 5 pounds to 32.....at 85 MPH all I hear now is wind. Huge difference

 

Nature of the beast. If you want it to look more aggressive you need to leave something on the table. My tire mission was to have 1 set of tires to run year round that my wife didnt want to kill me because they are noisy . So far so good lol

 

I just had Cooper Discoverer Road & Tail tires in 275/60 R20 put on. They look much better than stock, and hopefully prove to be a good year round New England tire.

I really wanted to go bigger and wider with new wheels that have a smaller offset, but anything bigger than this puts me into an E rated tire and it’s not worth it for me (been there done that on a Tacoma). Might still do some deeper wheels with smaller offset in future.

 

I pay more attention to load index than the letter rated tires. I have an E rated tire with a load index of an XL. In today day and age I doubt you will find many E rated tires with 10 plies. My E rated tires say right on the side of them there is 6 plies, and max load is XL rated which is stock.

 

Watch the weight as well, that really impacts things

 

Yeah the wheel well gap on 18s and even a 60 size is pretty obvious. Pirelli Scorpion A/T pluses come in a 275 65 20 with a 116 S1 rated tire. No idea how they would run but Pirelli's are pretty good tires.

I run open country A/T3s on mine at 275 65 20 and get lots of complements on them. They are awesome tires, but finding a non E rated tire is rough in the 275 65 20 range. I would steer clear of Chinese tires.

 

In what way? I had the original Falkens and they would get around 19ish on the highway which I lost a mpg by going to the Toyo AT3s but the benefits far outweigh the negatives.
