Hi all, I’m looking at potentially upgrading the stock stereo in my 2020 TRD Pro. One thing that I am not sure of is whether the OEM JBL sound system is amplified. Does anyone know?

The question was asked when I was shopping for stereos and I did not know the answer. Thanks in advance!

    It's probably like 10W/channel, but it's there...

(actually, it's surprising how much better it sounds once a decent head unit is hooked up to it).

There are many discussions about this use the search bar and you will find all sorts of things involved with the Tundra sound system. The JBl is a little more complicated than the plain one that come with the SR5s and the Sport models.

If you do not do it yourself make sure you find someone that is very familiar with the Tundras.

I think I just might go for it. Looking at a Sony 9500es that is on sale and has all the plug and play cables.

would love to hear your feedback if you decide to take the plunge. Im also encouraged by the replies stating that a new head unit can liven up the system a bit. I'm "struggling" with the same on my 2018 1794 Edition with the factory JBL. Sound is just lacking a bit. Want a bit more power from my sound so I can feel young again. lol.

I love my Tundra, but the stereo nearly killed the deal. I've not heard one this bad (in a brand new vehicle!) since the 70s. I hesitate to upgrade it because of all the crap tied into the head unit. Would I still be able to tweak the settings on another head unit?
