6112s up front w/ 650 lb springs, 5160s in the rear, JBA UCAs, Suspension Maxx Links, ATS leafs w/ Wheeler's AAL and overload spring, Toyota Gloss Gunmetal TRD Wheels, Toyo Open Country AT3s 275/70/17
Hey y’all so I’ve been deliberating on 5100 vs 6112 for about a 2” lift.

I’m familiar with concept with the 5100s that as you use higher circlip notch settings the ride will get stiffer unless you change the spring. Thus, the 2883, 2884, 2885, etc spring options.

However, when researching 6112 options, it looks like there are two spring options - a 650 lb regular duty spring and a 700 lb spring for armored trucks or heavy duty. So my question is when you increase the circlip notch location on the 6112s, does the ride get progressively stiffer similar to the way a 5100 would?

I would think a solid YES. I dont see how it could not work that way

Anytime you add preload to a spring it's gonna' get stiffer.

But... From what I've been reading (correct me if I'm wrong here folks) it sounds like the 6112's are a little plusher to start with than the 5100's so maybe a better ride at the same ride height?

I had 5100's on my '00 at the middle setting and they were firm but not harsh.

Definitely not I have 6112’s on the top settings on my DC 4wd for a 2” lift and it rides great! I thought they would be stiff and firm but they ride amazing. I have 650lb springs. Would they ride softer in a lower setting maybe but then it be really soft and spongy feeling

5/3 on my 6112's with 650lb springs and I got about an 1" lift - rides super great.

Recommendation is to shoot for a spring lift with length or weight rating vs a lift based on a circlip setting compressing the spring from the get go. Been there, done that with Tacomas and my first (1GT) Access Cab Tundra with had 5100's. I debated this a lot and in hindsight I think I should have gone for the 700lb on my otherwise stock DC. I like my current ride though so I am just armchairing this one...

My double cab is on the 7/5 clip and got 2". Fantastic ride compared to the 5100s

I wonder why they do not offer an actual lift spring with these? It’s just the 650 or 700 pound spring right?

The spring does provide the lift. But it's adjustable so of course the higher you want them, the more preload you'll have.

If the spring does provide lift why are they advertised as 0-2”?

You're correct 650 or 700, they do not have another for this specific application. One could mix n' match I suppose and order a different spring length from Bilstein.

Hey y'all! Thanks for the input. Was out camping for the weekend, so just now getting a chance to respond.

That's good to hear. I probably lean more toward wanting a cush ride than a stiff one. Good to hear someone is liking it on a DC 4wd, like my truck.

Yeah the 700 lb has crossed my mind. I guess if I don't like the 650, I could always switch it. But again, I lean to the softer ride end of the spectrum.

Love that look. That's pretty much what I'm going for. Debating on 7/5 or 8/6. Think I'm gonna go with the Open Country's like you. What is your wheel/tire size setup?

Level 8 MK6 wheels with 0 offset and 255/80/17 Toyos. Great combination

why are the options offset by 2? I'm still on stock springs, but my truck doesnt really fat guy lean, and i could shuffle my load to compensate. I'm gonna get a shop style spring compressor so i can tune em, but i noticed all the options for assembled springs were offset by 2.

@Mr.bee Word is that these trucks have like a 1/2" stock lean to the driver side. So you are supposed to compensate for that with different circlip locations on each side. It's even in the bilstein install instructions for the 6112s

Maybe? I've heard about it more with DCs. I'm still gonna measure mine a few times with various amounts of gas before I order them. Who knows - maybe it depends on the individual truck.

Doesn’t seem like a great option imo. They should offer them with a true lift spring and if needed shim the drivers side to achieve the same lift on both sides.
