You're listening to music on your screen, phone rings, so screen changes to phone screen (fine), have your conversation and hang up. Now you have to manually go all the way back to the music screen, which requires pushing about 3 different icons. You have to push the icon in bottom left to get to the home screen, then you have to push the Toyota screen twice because it never works with one push, then you have to push the music icon. All while driving in traffic, unless you pull over. Please tell me there's an easier way. Am I missing something? Annoying af.

My radio, and Apple Music, resumes after I end a call. But I’m always using CarPlay, so I don’t know it that makes a difference.

You mean the music? So does mine, but the screen stays on the phone screen. Confirm your screen goes back to the music screen?

Yep, as soon as the call disconnects it goes back to the music screen.

You're not alone. I've been annoyed by this issue after every phone call, especially when using navigation.

    Or,......
Don't talk on the phone while driving, unless it's actually important,.....which, it likely never is. And if it is important enough to answer and have a conversation, then it's important enough to pull over somewhere.
Talking about it being dangerous to push buttons and play with the radio while driving, but having a conversation while driving is just as (actually more) dangerous.

I do wish the music navigation was better. For example, whenever you're listening to a song on XM Radio, and you want to go back and look through some of the channels, it always defaults to the top of the available channels. It doesn't pick back up at your last location. I find that you just have to have too many clicks to navigate.

    This! Or......

I find it easier to hold my phone, talk on speaker, drive with my left knee, while eating a double cheeseburger from McDonalds. Sometimes gotta crawl over to the glove box for some napkins, hit or miss if they come in the bag or not and the ketchup isn't forgiving on those things, not to worry though, I do put my phone down for this activity.

Agreed that this does suck. I have the Toyota map running (hey, it's paid for until March), and every time I get a call, whether I answer it or not, the display immediately goes to the phone/AA screen. It doesn't go back to the Toyota map. I suppose when my subscription runs out it won't be such an annoyance to remain in AA but for now it is.

I miss my Entune 2.0 screen where it partitioned - one section for XM, one for the phone, and one for the map. Irony of having a 14" screen and lacking the ability to partition it off usefully. SIGH.

So, this sounds like a problem with the Toyota subscription service...even more reason not to sign up for it.

If you guys haven't tried Google Maps in satellite view, I highly recommend it. It's like flying in a helicopter directly over your truck at all times. You can also split the screen between Google Maps and the music screen, if you prefer. No issues with the screen returning after a call in CarPlay or Android Auto.

Is it just as dangerous to have a conversation with a passenger? Or is a conversation over the truck's speakers more dangerous? Serious question. Curious what your opinion is.

I like Google Maps until I hit an area with a poor GPS connection. Toyota navigation is far better in those situations.

Try pressing the volumn knob. A couple of times when my phone battery died it went to the Mac screen but no music. I went to turn it off and when I hit the button it went to FM radio. Tried a couple more times same thing.

When phone is connected that button turns it off. I use Android Auto exclusively. Always plays music after phone call but I have to hit the Pandora icon to get the music screen back.

Apple CarPlay is better than any native system ever. I just have Siri do everything, make calls, text, give me directions, play whatever music I tell tell her to play. It is absolutely excellent. I do have an old iPod that won’t work with it, but even then, when I am done with the phone call, it goes right back to the Toyota media for the music.

Can't be any worse than trying to get a half chewed cassette tape out of the deck while driving, fiddling with the equalizer slides, or cranking the knob to the next FM station was back in the day. Or manually rolling down the passenger side window while going down the road. We won't mention the fact we didn't have cup holders for our beers back then, and the dangers that lurked when cold suds came into contact with your crotch.

Use the steering wheel control "mode" button as others suggested. It certainly is annoying and I feel the same way. The fact there are not physical buttons on the side or bottom of the massive infotainment screen that will:

    1) Turn the screen off..... instead of tapping through how many screen to do so?
    2) Change the source
    3) Navigation, but we can probably leave this out.. because how many people are paying for subscription navigation for any reason other than the remote start that was bundled with it? Shame on you Toyota!
    4) CarPlay / Android auto shortcut button

it would have been so incredibly easy for Toyota to have added some physical buttons, discreetly yet conveniently into the side of the infotainment screen. Why they didn't do what many other brands have is beyond me. My one and only complaint with the 3rd gen aside from the noisy door and window seals :bananadead:

I use the toyota voice feature to do this by saying " hey toyota, turn on the radio". This makes it so I don't have to go through the multiple steps. Subscription not needed for this feature to work.

Yep, I got away with murder when I was a dumb kid. Took a lot of chances that I didn't even know I was taking.
The nice thing about having kids later on is having someone to roll windows down, get shit from the back seat and hold your beer for you.
Kids are long grown and gone, but everything is auto and push button now.
However, I still refuse to text or answer a call while driving, not even while at a light. And I'll pull over if I think it might be really important or an emergency. Just because I hyper pay attention to the road and I know for a fact that you can't have a conversation and focus on the road. Everyone thinks they can and they are dead wrong. Doesn't matter how long you've been driving, how coordinated you are, how good your driving muscle memory is or how good you think you are at multitasking.
Most people are over confident and over estimate their abilities. Most people probably never even consider, "hey, am I doing this wrong? Am I any good at this?"
The answer is, no. You're not as good at driving as you think you are. Add in talking on the phone, Bluetooth or not, and you just cut your mediocre driving skills in half.

    Sorry, missed this.
Driving is inherently dangerous. Even with vehicles being as safe and easy to drive as they are these days, and even with being hyper focused on the road and my surroundings, I still miss things, make mistakes and I still can't control other drivers. Eliminating as many distractions as possible and paying as much attention as humanly possible is just my best chance. I hate blind spots, obstructed view, dirty glass/mirrors, and I refuse to play with my phone or radio.
Yes, I'll adjust the AC or change the radio station at a light, or on a long stretch of road. But I won't text or answer my phone while driving. A few times I thought it might be important and found a place to pull over and call someone back. I get pissed if they knew I was driving and it wasn't important.
As for a conversation with a passenger, I'm not a fan. It took my wife a while to realize that I wasn't mad at her about something, I was just paying attention to the road and not interested in chit chat.
On road trips, when there's a 100 miles of straight road through nowhere, sure, I'll surf radio stations and chit chat. But as soon as we come up on a city center with crazy traffic and I have to pay attention to signs and have my head on a swivel? Not interested in sight seeing, nonsense chit chat or playing with my GPS/phone.
I've done a lot of driving and I've done a lot of road trips and I see way too many people carrying on with conversations with passengers like they're sitting in their living room. Meanwhile, their speed is fluctuating, they're in/out of the lines, cutting people off, making last second turns, etc. I see too many people talking on their phone, playing with their radio, playing with their phone, their GPS shit, you name it. At least half the people I see driving that don't even have passengers and aren't playing with electronics.....aren't doing a very good job of maintaining speed, keeping it in the lines (especially through curves) or being aware of their surroundings. People who are talking or otherwise distracted are just that much worse.
This is why I make every attempt to not be distracted and do my best to be good at driving. And it's still not a 100% guarantee that I'll make it from A-B unscathed.

No offense, but I think you're overblowing it. I look at the screen for many things while driving. Not just the phone. Are you suggesting we stop looking at the screen completely? And I do occasionally look at my passenger if conversing. You are correct, we would be much safer sitting straight up, eyes on the road every second and hands at 10-2 position (or 5-7), but that is so unrealistic.
