What have you done to your 2nd gen Tundra today?

Yes mine do they have the little screw things to adjust the pitch a little. Bought on Ebay

 

Update on my set up:

Recently installed a Hooke Road bumper to give my truck a more aggressive look. Switched some mounts around on my Front Runner Roof Rack. Also installed a 40" Front Runner light bar to the front of my cab rack. So far still iffy on my bumper choice but it's growing on me. Still a fraction of the price compared to other bumpers on the market and lets me put a winch and gives me a better approach angle. Had to cut out holes to reuse the sonar sensors.

Next mods will be suspension, and then hopefully bigger tires and 17" wheels!

 

This post made me order it and do the same thing, but I laser etched it. Not too shabby for like 20 bucks!

 

Installed covers over the airbag and new steering wheel controls. The airbag didn't match the rest of the wheel because I replaced it when adding the steering wheel controls.



Basically the cover hides any damage as well as the fake leather texture. I like it ok. Anyway it looks better than before.

Why don't you just buy another Hopkins harness? It'd be the least expensive way to go.

 

Color match handle covers from eBay, fit is “ok”, had to trim with a knife and the paint will definitely scratch right off but for saving $300 I’m happy and I love the look

 

I usually baby my truck, but I had a big time itch to hit a trail. We are in Moab for the kids fall break. I got out and flexed the 4x4.

Yesterday I went to Gemini Bridges - much rougher than I remember it from 10 years ago. Almost positive it's changed to be more rocky and rough. A few spots that pushed me on ground clearance.

Today I did Long Canyon - At few rocky steps that threatened to high center, but didn't. Some pretty steep climbs. 4lo for me, if only to keep the trans temps down.

Third and final for the trip was Willow Springs into Arches NP. Banged my step bars on the drivers side and tweaked a couple of the brackets. There are some pretty tall drop offs for a stock truck to be trying located near the park boundary. They don't meter traffic there like they do at the main gate. Now I know why - it's pretty challenging for a stock ride.

Installed new AFR sensors in front of the cats. A bit tough to get out but doable with a 22mm crowfooot style O2 socket.

 

Looks good! Do you also have part numbers for the controls and airbag?

I have the issue of the AC and defrost doors not operating it sounds like they are trying to move. I did see the YouTube video that another member had posted a link to the video was more about how to access the area but not much about the total job. I am guessing it would be a $1k job if done by a dealership. I have moderate mechanical ability but won’t be attempting the job after reading your post

 

Installed a dashcam I found on marketplace for cheap. Rexing v1-4k. Tho 4k is fake and upscaled to achieve. Spent more on the hardwire kit and microsd card.

Just in time for the fall colors. And drivers on ice and snow.

 

I just replaced the double servo climate control on mine and it was not fun. Took me 20 hours over 3 days. Now that I know the trick, I could probably Do the next one in 3 to 4 hours. You definitely have to be a contortionist since you have to lay on your back on the floorboard and need 3 hands.

Installed these color-matched door handle covers. They snap and stick on. My door handles were pretty faded and my efforts to blacken them are short-lived. Before/after:




The color is a bit of wrap, but it's a good match. I think it looks better than before. It seems outrageously expensive but color-matched wrap is super expensive.

I covered up my key hole which I've never needed so here's hoping that remains true.

 

Since my last post in here covered the truck in grinding dust, hopefully not much bedliner overspray, and then wool wax I figured it was time for a wash. Hand wash and wax, only had time for sealer on the roof (which I pressure washed off a nice layer of algae) and the hood. All good for another winter with DIY rear fender extensions too!

 

Not trying to be the fun police but is the airbag cover a good idea? What happens if the airbag deploys? High speed plastic headed your way? Can't imagine a $30 eBay part is as well thought through as the factory cover.

Or am I missing something?

 

I wondered this but... isn't your airbag covered by plastic in the first place?

Also, I want to add steering wheel controls and I read that you could just trim the original airbag cover. But is modifying a safety device (cover) also a safety issue?

Then there's people that just delete the airbag. Life is a risk.

 

Yeah I am definitely not a contortionist I might just suck it up and have a dealership do the job and to boot I went to change out the cabin air filter there was evidence of rodents got into the filter area and pulls out what seemed like nesting material vacuuming as much as I could and when I went to turn the fan on it sounds like something is still in there with the dash vibrating now on the passenger side

 

So here's my confidence-inspiring conversation with the seller:



From my research AFTER installing the steering wheel cover, the original cover is designed to split horizontally below the logo in a square roughly half the size of the cover. The airbag bursts through.

The airbag cover is definitely not designed to do this. It's not particularly well-stuck to the wheel so it won't stop the airbag, but will either flip upward or launch into my face. It doesn't weigh much but still I'd rather not.

 

I’m 6’, 200#’s and 60 years old. I definitely felt it in my back. It wasn’t near as easy as some of the YouTube videos show, but they were helpful with the positioning of the doors. I surely requires some patience which can run out very quickly. I had to walk away a few times when it wouldn’t just “snap in” as the videos showed. What saved me was the one guy who took the blend door servo apart and put in that gear first which is the secret to getting everything to line up. I did use the rubber band method to hold the doors in place as one video showed. I’m sure if I had to do it again, I could do it in about 4 hours. Next up is replacing the serpentine belt and pulleys. Just a note, don’t order through CARID through eBay since it takes them 3 to 5 days before they ship. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice their horrible reviews until afterwards.

 

Don’t worry, I’m sure the Takata steel shrapnel in the air bag will cut through that cover like a hot knife through warm butter

 

With camping (towing season) being done for the year I though it was time to treat it right.

5qts of Toyota WS - more tempted than ever to upgrade fluids. WS is $16 at my local dealer now.

 

I also managed to get trans fluid in my hair in this one. Atleast it wasn't gear oil.

 

Retro, I tow a 9,000 lbs RV around Ontario, Canada with my 2012 5.7L Tundra. Didn't go too far this summer, a few thousand miles. It is scheduled to be appointed. Had the engine oil changed. You suggest I change the tranny oil too?

 

You can usually get WS fluid through Amazon or eBay for about $12.50 a qt

 

I can relate to this... dumped the fluid making zero mess in the drive, but laid my head in a soaked atf rag.

Replaced 1.3 gallons and she shifts quick and firm. Even downshifts easier.

 

So that didn't work....but the $15 ebay clockspring did.
