Classic. The welded nut on the top piece is stripped, OR the fastener is stripped. You need to get it to where a thread will catch a thread OR put enough pressure it'll re-thread.

How? Top pressure. Combined with gently turning the bolt.

Ideally, if you can push on the tail end of the bolt with something that'll help it catch, that's the way to go. In the event you're a lucky dog and the weldnut there isn't stripped, that'll help it stay intact, you can measure the threads on the bolt you pull out, and replace it with an equivalent. If you have no way to put downward pressure on the nut while you gently back it off with a ratchet (i.e. don't push on the bolt from the head side), you could try giving a few taps with a hammer to mungle up everything, which should force threads to catch.

An alternate, if you had a welder, would be to weld a rod to the bolt making it T-shaped so you could pull down on the bolt while you spin.

Yea definitely no welder here unfortunately. I'll try again this afternoon, I'm thinking where the head is there's some space there I could potential shove a wrench in there and pull downwards while ratcheting, that's probably the best pressure I'll be able to apply. Thanks shifty, give it a shot again! Thankfully no other bolt did this to me

Cool, I had no clue and didn't want to look it up, I've been too buy playing appliance repair man, fridge took a shit. And it looks like you're the lucky dude: Threads were gone. I wouldn't have wanted to replace that part.

Put some antiseize on the new one. A stainless acorn nut over the exposed threads may also protect them from corrosion

Buy a nut that fits the bolt, you will want to run it down from the top when you replace te bolt.
Chances are extremely good that the weld nut is almost stripped as well.

Yea that's not a bad idea, I had actually run the old shitty bolt from the top before to see if the threads were good and it worked fine
