HA Ha, my PPI recommendation was for a Pre- Purchase Inspection, never heard of a Post Purchase Inspection I would call that a service order.

At the end of the day, all he really did was pay a diagnostic fee for them to tell him what's wrong with his truck.
You're correct, it's the exact same thing as a pre purchase inspection (except it's post purchase in this case).

Unless it isn't passing inspection drive it the way it is. Things like worn tires you'll need to address but most of that stuff would be if you wanted to return it to how it was when it was first driven off the lot. Is there any major issues? I thought I might have read something about the transmission???

I appreciate all the replies I know I shouldn't of impulse pur hated this truck . I have found a private ship who will do an inspection and look at the transmission then if it all goes well I can get him to decipher the 1200 things toyota wanted me to fix it needs to run and it does it drive smooth handles great feels solid in the front it just doesn't shift into 5 or 6th gear ill keep you guys posted on progression of repairs.
Physically the truck is in good decent shape a few dings a dent in the rear butter thats about it drivers side seat worn but no big deal .
If anyone has personal stories on similar issues please share ty .

Folks need to understand, the "Sales" Dept. is a completely separate entity from the "Service" Dept. at a dealership. I know, as consumers we don't care and want to think they are the same, but they are not. Sales will sell literally Anything that someone will give them $$ for that they can get out the door. I was recently shocked to be able to pick up a 291k 07 4x4 from an actual Toyota dealership. Did it need a bunch of repairs and "sorting?" Absolutely. I inspected it and made them fix several things BEFORE I took delivery to the point that they said "this is as far as we are willing to go, we will just cancel the deal and send it to the auction if we have to spend any more $$" so I took it and sorted the rest myself. One has to understand, the Service Dept., if its sent to them, is going to write up EVERTHING they find wrong with a vehicle both for maximum profits purposes and liability purposes (One may expect a vehicle to be "perfect" upon leaving a dealership; Service must notify of ANY problems encountered, large or small).

If it helps any, these are all things I’ve replaced on my truck which had only 2 owners, the other being a friend who took care of it but didn’t do preventative anything.

LBJ’s, water pump, timing belt, radiator, alternator, starter, bumpers, skids, tie rods, leafs, coilovers, rear shocks, spark plugs, fuel injectors, valve cover gaskets, headlights, corner lights, taillights, tow harness, calipers, rotors, pads, drums, all fluids.

My goal is to keep and drive my ‘02 till I die so I felt good spending now rather than spreading it out. Some good upgrades and plenty of fun stuff yet to do.

Your goals are likely different and the costs likely should be kept under control to match the goals. But for any truck this old which isn’t in perfect condition at purchase time, you really want a space and some time to DIY or a trusted mechanic and some cash to spend.

Youtube will be your best friend.... Finding ways to save money will be the key here. Not everything has to be replaced right this moment, but searching this site for DIY will help you reduce your overhead. I hope you drive that B till the wheels fall off since there's probably 0 chance of return on investment, unless people lose their marbles like they did last year.
