Topping out Fox Pro shocks?

I'm trying to decide if I want to add a Coachbuilder shim,or Eibach lift spring, or just leave it stock. Has anyone who actually does off-roading have any issues with topping out? Any other negative issues?
My issue with leaving suspension stock Pro height, is the not so great approach, departure, and break over angles.

 

I am running Pro Fox's with a .5 Coach builder shim and plus 1 rear CB Shackles. You should be all set adding that small amount. I have only done some dirt roads and fields. Never had any issue. Rides great.

 

Are you exactly level with that shackle?

Yeah, I need to see how the fronts work with whoops, ledges, drops, and holes. That's were possible topping out will come into play. Anywhere where the shocks need down travel/ droop.

 

You could look into the Westcott kit for the front, it's a combination of a taller perch and a shim on top, so you're splitting preload between the spring and spacer. I ran it on my Bilstein Pros and was very happy.

My issues with the preload spacer (and even shackles) like Wescott are having the shocks not riding in the correct bypass zones, since they are position sensitive. But, who knows, the Wescott one may not be big enough to matter. I also think about the added preload causing the rebound to be much harder, and the shock not having the damping to fully control it. Plus, I'd have to remove the spring. If I went that route, I'd probably do the new Eibach spring.

I probably over think it, but coming from Motocross, suspension is everything, haha.

Haha, I was waiting for the Bilstein DSA+ 8112/8100 to be released, but came across a set of supposedly barely used Fox off the Pro for a price I couldn't say no to.
And the responsible side of my brain keeps telling me I don't need $5k+ shocks, especially after already losing one truck this year and learning how the insurance companies work. So far responsible is winning.

 

What bumpers do you have? This also plays a factor on approach and departure angles

 

All stock. I have thought about replacing them as well. But, then I'd want to not run the Pro shocks, since they are tuned for stock Tundra weight. See, vicious cycle, haha.
I also know I'll never be truly happy without a full blown race truck or even long travel like yours, but I want to retire some day!

I've snapped several Fox shocks topping out when flexing hard... that's when I had to use limit straps.

Get the Eibach springs, coachbuilder +3 and wheelers superbumps and you’re pretty set for some fairly harsh off-roading.

35 won’t fit under the bed though.

I actually offroad my Tundra and I’ve had no issues. I don’t smash whoops like I’m in a LT truck but I’ve done 60+ in dirt washes and never had a problem. This is how it sits on 315/70/17

I missed my opportunity on the Eibach springs, I dropped them off to be rebuilt last week. They weren't leaking or anything, but since I can't verify there is actually only 6k miles on them, I figured I'd just get them serviced now.

I may end up just running the Fox's stock. But, we'll see.

Man call the shop and if they have yet to get to work on them they can do the springs in literally under 5 minutes. Alternatively, just get the springs yourself and do the swap yourself? Just go rent a spring compressor from your local shop or go to a place that has a spring compressor and have them put the new coils in for you. I'm not sure of your area but my local guy who rebuilds shocks would charge like 20 bucks to swap your coils at most.

Out of curiosity who is re-building your Fox stuff? its the trd pro kit? I was under the impression that only FOX could rebuild them because of the way the end cap is on the resi, but that's just what i've heard. When it comes time for me to get new shock's it'll either be a full send for a LT kit or a 3.0 setup.

 

Yes, Fox TRD Pro shocks.
There's plenty of shops that rebuild the Fox TRD Pro's. Seems if they will do Fox Raptor shocks, they'll do Fox TRD. This will be his first set he's done, but he does the Raptor stuff all the time. And tons and tons of regular Fox, King, Bilstein, etc. J-Tech suspension in Tucson.

There's a Shock Surplus video on YouTube, of them rebuilding a Pro set as well.

I decided not to do the spring, because if I decide to sell this set, I want it all stock. And, I'm not sure I want to go quite that high in the front.

Thanks for sharing about your suspension setup. I have had the almost identical set up theorized up in the ol noggin for a while. Seems like this setup would really boogie down some desert roads. When I pay off the truck this summer I think I am gonna start the search for some used TRD Pro Fox shocks and begin this journey.
