My husband and I have a 2010 Platinum Tundra (flexfuel) and we can not figure out what is causing the extended start. It was in the shop with master Toyota mechanics for 8 months!! They couldn't figure it out. My husband is also a mechanic. TSB has been done, fuel pump replaced..... twice, MAF replaced, immobilizer chip, fuel pump control module, throttle body is clean. We have thrown thousands at this truck and everyone is stumped on how to fix it. I figured some one on here might have some ideas since we are out of them.

How’s the maintenance otherwise? Spark plugs? Were all these parts thrown at the truck OEM? Anything electrical with a plug should be OEM / Denso when possible. When the truck finally starts, does it do anything unusual? Belch out smoke, or smell really rich? My gut is that it’s still flex fuel related.

I believe all maintence has been done. Battery was put in less than a year ago sparkplugs where done again when this started. Everything has been OEM. When it starts usually you can smell fuel once it's running its perfectly fine. If the engine is still warm usually within 15-20 minutes of turning it off it will start back up no problem but any longer than that it takes 1.5 crank cycles or longer unless you pump the gas pedal a little. It has been check for fuel leaks and they found nothing.

Really still sounds like the flex fuel issue. Did they follow the fuel reset procedure all the way through? You have to add 3-5 gallons of fuel after the reset and drive at a certain RPM for a certain amount of time. A bit involved to get the reset to stick. My BIL also has this issue. He has not done the fuel pump replacement due to cost and reports that it doesn’t fix the problem.

I have no idea to be honest. I know they said they did the reset like 5 times. I guess it's worth trying again.
