I've recently been thinking about trying to store my truck at places for months at a time. The plan would be to fly out to it and explore nearby areas before moving to another storage spot.

I realize there are all kinds of downsides and risks with this. Living on the east coast makes constant trips across the country difficult with my work schedule. Has anyone had any experience doing anything like this before? Just looking for input and ideas at this point.

So you want to remotely store your Tundra, not store the remote?

If you are talking about rural/backwoods areas, good luck. Be sure your insurance coverage includes comprehensive and is up to date.

If you are talking about urban/suburban areas, then a storage unit is probably your best bet.

Have you thought about shipping the truck in advance of a trip and flying out to your destination to pick it up? May be cost prohibitive or maybe not with storage fees and all.

Correct. My mistake. Fixed the title. Insurance is full coverage but you bring up a good point about looking into it since the vehicle would be stored elsewhere than what is currently listed on the policy. Storage units may have to be the way to go. If I were flying into a city, they would be the most convenient. It would be great to find storage specialized for vehicles rather than the rear of a self storage lot where anyone could have access to the truck.

I have thought about this and it's certainly an option. I feel like it would be the most expensive but I could be wrong. If I were planning multiple trips a year it would add up quickly.

Fly out to somewhere and rent a minivan / Jeep wrangler 4 door depending on your off-road to space needs. They make great exploration vehicles. Bring minimal gear and swing by a Walmart / REI and get some basics for your trip. If you really end up taking your truck across the US and leaving it somewhere, solar panel for battery tending would be a good idea if it’s stored outside. Otherwise need a plug in for a tender or unhook the battery. I can see lots of logistical issues with this plan though. Renting something will be cheaper / safer / more convenient in the long run.
