I have my Tundra (2021) in the local Toyota dealer for them to troubleshoot why my "low Fuel light" is not coming on prior to "0 mile to empty". The dealer has dropped the tank and manually demonstrated the light does come on at 0, but when assembled, the floater activates after the miles to empty hits 0 (actually 4-5 miles after 0). I was told that they reset the system through the radio, but unable to find anything preventing the light from coming on around 20-30 miles to empty, which was the norm prior to the glitch.
I am being told that the truck needs to relearn the fuel, but won't warrant keeping the ticket open until confirmation. I feel the fuel level should be separate them MPG, but looking for feedback on great expertise.

Has anybody experienced this issues, know or have any recommendations? I am not convinced they have found the issue and asking for $700 for the little findings provided.

Why was this not covered by the warranty?

Wow wish you came here first before letting the dealer mess with your truck that much. Thats just when the low fuel light comes on but at "0 miles" you still have about 8 gallons left. I can't believe the dealer did that much unnecessary diagnosing and are charging you for it.

Clearly a shady dealership considering I would assume the truck is still under warranty and they knew Toyota wouldn't pay for that nonsense so they're trying to hit him with the bill for diagnosing a problem that doesn't exist.

No way you should pay one cent. If they balk, take it to corporate. Toyota knows very well how the tank, sensors and display work.

I've never seen the low fuel light in my '21. Even when I run it down to '0' miles left on the dash. I always assumed it had something to do with the fact that I put it on 35s before it's first tank was empty.

I just ran my 2021 down to "0 miles left" for the first time the other day. That was about when the low fuel warning came on. Normally I never let it get that low. My old Tundra (2018), the warning came on around 30 miles to empty. But as said, it really doesn't matter. When the low fuel warning comes up, you still have like 6 gallons or so left theoretically, which most likely even if you're towing should get you at least 50 miles.

And frankly you shouldn't be relying on the low fuel indicator anyway.
