The house we live in is 58 YO it has lead paint and original windows so to say the least it has been one project after another.
Last summer I replaced the windows on the first floor bedroom, then all of the windows (15) except the kitchen BC that project will be later on.
So for the bedroom I picked away at it all winter long, pulled all of the moldings off and removed the door.
After years of using joint compound in previous homes I thought I'd give real plaster a shot, well after watching numerous YT videos I felt I could do it.
I couldn't believe how much $ and time plastering saved me and couldn't be happier with the results!
So installed a new solid wood door and replaced all of the moldings, painted then furnished it with the help of the Little Lady.

Wallpaper is horrible. About as bad as acoustic ceilings.

Wow, well done!! That turned out beautifully.

Our house was built in 1958, and was a TOTAL fixer upper when we bought it. (Only way we could afford to buy in the area we wanted.)

We went after it big time for the first few years, then a couple projects a year as money and energy would permit, and now 15 years into it we just completed the final "big" renovation on our wish list, which was taking over the guest (originally the 1958 master) bathroom, moving walls out and making it the en suite bath in our add-on bedroom.

The nice part about a serious fixer (Okay, let's be honest it was a shit-hole) is that it frees you up (and kinda' forces you) to do things exactly the way you want.

Wifey and I did a lot of it ourselves... I had a little bit of construction experience, I also had YouTube and a salary that wouldn't allow me to hire professionals for everything. Often when I was starting a project she would say "Do you know how to do that?" and my usual answer was "I'll let you know shortly."

It was a labor of love, that I NEVER, EVER want to do again!

Hell ya you both did it right!
    Nice job man!
That outside patio is freaking amazing I really like the inlay of river stones now that's a nice accent to it,very inviting for sure.

Like you for the master I feel the same,it's upstairs there are two bed rooms with a full bath. I'm tempted to live down stairs and rip the upstairs floors and take some square footage from the smaller bedroom blow out the bathroom and mold it into the master....

    We can dream right?

They really do, especially working side by side with your spouse to create your perfect "home".

Whenever we were working on something I always made a point to have her use any interesting tools or equipment, at least briefly.

Jackhammer, rototiller, plate compactor, nail guns, screw guns, etc.

Agreed on that,I gave my better half the Sawzall with a sleeve of wood blades and a couple of 12.0 batteries and she ripped up all of those rotodendrums(sp) roots and all.
Have her use the pro press for the plumbing. Man she loves it.
Yeah like you said, doing it together and putting the pieces in place "our place " makes it our home for sure!

Do it!! (when you get over the physical &/or financial shock of this project) We're loving having a master bath now and the big shower. We pushed the wall out 3' into our 18' X 20' bedroom, and don't miss the space at all.

That dream was one we didn't know if we would ever be able to actually do. Did a refi on the house to do that and get solar. (and a hot tub)

So wifey and I went to the beach and actually gathered all those rocks for the border ourselves. It was surprisingly fun.

I know a section of Torrey Pines State Beach that is just littered with nice round rock, I'd back my truck right to the sand, turn on some music and start fillin' buckets/tubs. Saved me a few bucks, but kinda' made it a little more personal.

    Thanks very much.

I spent a lot of time laying our garden hose or rope getting the curved outline of the patio just the way I liked, then laying our plywood, trash cans, etc. to simulate placement of the BBQ island and fire table, then getting up on the roof to look at it, come down and change it a little, and so on.

When you're doing drywall, or paint, or whatever, it's comforting to know that if you don't love it you can just rip it out and start over.

It was a little intimidating when the concrete guys started pouring, 'cuz that's a little more permanent. :(

Pretty happy with how it all turned out though, don't know that I'd change anything if we were doing it over.

Not a bad place to hang. Some good music playing, good friends around the fire, it's not a bad place to hang.
