Recently picked up a 2011 SR5 with low miles.
It has an aftermarket camera in the handle of the tailgate and a monitor in the left side of the rearview. When I go out and check the camera first thing in the am it will work fine.
Once i drive it and get someplace and put it in reverse to park its just showing black and white lines and seems like static.

Any guidance on testing with a multimeter or thoughts on what is wrong?

It's likely a loose connection, which will require you to find the wiring and jiggle any connections to see if you can reproduce it and then strengthen it. It's probably a bad RCA connector.

It could also be a bad camera. You could just buy another backup camera and connect it to the cable in the tailgate. If that fixes it, no wiring, which is the hard part. If that doesn't fix it, run the cable to the mirror RCA video connector hidden above your upper console and see if that fixes it.

If that still doesn't fix it, time for a new mirror, which seems like the least likely problem source.
