It will be worth it. The parking brake for settings is just absurd.

While I know this can be subjective, anyone have a recommendation for a replacement speaker set up to match with these Alpine units we just installed? I know adding an amp is always beneficial too, but I think I would at least start with some way nicer speakers. I think moving the tweeters to the sail panels would be a great improvement as well.

I have Hertz 6.5 with 1” tweets in the sails in all 4 doors. For the money these are great. You will need adapters for the speakers and I would advise using adapters for the speaker wires in the doors so your do not cut anything factory.

there are many good speakers available. I run everything from an amp.

Yes, I would definitely want to use harnesses to keep it all easy to put back if needed. Thanks for the input gents.

I kept everything. I won’t ever use it again but the main reason I like to keep it factory is in case there is an issue down the road. Lot more loose ends to check if you start cutting all the factory stuff apart.

Yeah, this was the nicest thing about all this. If you keep everything (and really what are you going to get for an OEM HU if you sell it) you can button it right back up to stock if need be.

This does lead me to a question. I thought in my initial research on these Alpine HU I confirmed that some of the OEM settings (like the settings for the door locks & so forth that were accessed in the setting menus) were still supposed to be available in the Alpine via the Maestro, but I can't find anything and I am pretty sure I have been through all the settings. I guess that stuff is lost or am I not looking in the right place?

I like the idea of the tweeters in the sail panels, but I will have to get a set of OEM JBL ones to make this happen b/c I have non-JBL and my fronts are in the dash which probably complicates things a little.

What is the Alpine supposed to do with the door locks? I’m a little confused with that.

you can upgrade the speakers and not do OEM. You are still using the OEM amp I imagine so you will be limited with that. The dash is powered by the HU but some have found the dash to be too “bright” and disconnect them.

You will need to get the OEM door sails from toyota.

I was just referring to the truck settings that were available through the OEM HU, for example you could change things like how the doors unlocked via one click or two clicks from the FOB (all the doors or just the driver), etc. I thought I was going to have access to all those settings from what I read, but I must have been wrong.

Go to Vehicle Settings on the main screen, Setup, Maestro Setup, then drill down from there. My maestro module was being buggy when I went to go check it out but it’s in there somewhere.

So, I got two problems now it would seem. One, mine is being buggy as shit now too. I know I was through all these menus several times looking with no issue a week ago. Now it literally took me 5 tries (turning the unit off & on) to get into the "Maestro Setup" menu and this is what I get when can actually get in that menu:

First Page of Maestro Set Up Menu: Both are white & active

    IMG_0771 copy.jpg

But when I click on Vehicle Features, I just get this grayed out screen. Vehicle Settings is Gray & not pressable:

    IMG_0772 copy.jpg

God Help me if I have to reflash this thing....Dang.

The compatibility and performance with this Alpine and my Mastro is definitely flakier than it ever was with the previous Pioneer and Kenwood head units I ran. I opened up a support ticket regarding some other issues with Alpine but haven't heard back. If they ever do respond I'll ask about this stuff as well.

I just realized your grayed out issue is probably because you have to have the ignition on for that to work. But it’s still buggy as hell from there lol. It took a bit but I finally got the pages to load. Here’s what’s available on my 2018 SR5

Yep, after a couple of tries (still getting some glitchy) with the ignition on, I got it to work. It seems to run this "scanning vehicle" thing every time you drop it into that menu (did it twice) but then everything you were showing pops up for my truck.

Thanks for showing me the "light" lol

I’ve got JL C1 650 coaxial in the rear and components in the front with oem sail panels. Came in a tech12volts kit so his adapters as well. No complaints.

What is the maestro used for? My Tundra is a non-jbl, 2007 model, is it needed for me to install the headunit?

I don't have anything that is controlled by my radio. The 07s were pretty basic.

I don't have that on my steering wheel.

In an 07 that isn’t JBL, you won’t need the maestro. Just hit Crutchfield and enter your info to see what components you need

Is there a specific tweeter size that fit in the OEM sale panels I should look out for?
