Uh, welcome to the show, but the post you just quoted is over 2 years old. Also have some BST (buy, sell, trade)rules to abide by here. Poke around and enjoy all the good info here.

I will say that this thread has evolved into more of an "all things" camper shell related thread. I know that I get a kick out of reading it and enjoy seeing some of the tops we find and post on here.

Buddy of mine had boot style (snugtop) on his 1st gen Taco and then 2nd gen taco. Both shells never sealed quite right and rubbed the paint off his cab from the constant rubbing/movement between body/bed.

    @#%(& the new Type S = 16 only ?

Yes great question sir, i personally prefer to zip tie my rods & tackle to the rear driveshaft. Works great & once all the scary noises stop you hardly know they’re down there. The tackle box straps nicely under the rear spare tire too

I did a very similar thing with mine, I didn't want to drill holes though so I bought cargo nets with Velcro on them since my shell is carpeted. So useful for miscellaneous things!

I had to drill holes for my roof tracks. I like your idea though! I have to think the Velcro wouldn’t hold much weight though ?

I usually keep lighter weight stuff in it like towels, water shoes or tie downs, but I've never had them come off. Since I sleep in my shell, I usually put my phone and a water bottle in them at night.

I tend to carry half a dozen rods/reel combos with me, but yeah, that's probably what I'd do. Or limit rods/reels to one side and shift to the other. Dad and I usually rig our own stuff up. I'll hafta see if I can get him to snap a picture of the one we put in his 2.5 gen.

I've actually got a rather low quality shell, and abuse the shit out of it, without losing any paint. If you have the correct shell for the truck, and with a healthy boot between the two; they should never contact each other. If the boot was rubbing the paint off the cab, I'd imagine it wasn't installed with enough pressure between the two. This is why some people call the boot a gasket, as it makes more sense with it's purpose.

Or maybe I just baby my truck and drive like an old man:notsure:

I've decided I want to get a used softtopper to hold me over til my OVRLND CAMPER is done being made. About 6 months I think. I had soft topper on my Tacoma for 7 years. That's an amazing product. Still looks like new. I found a used soft topper for the second gen Tundra double cab here in Southern California. Wonder if it will fit the first gen double cab. I already emailed the company today to see if they are compatible. If anyone spots one for sale, let me know!

According to their website, they only offer two for the tundra between 2000 and 2014, a 6ft and an 8ft

Sounds like he's got more experience with em than I do. It's in softopper's support staff hands now. Reminds me I need to remove.my.tool box and install mine for camping/wheeling at HF next weekend. I invited all the Texans including @Slp82

Here you go. No clue on the part number as the previous owner bought it. I’ll see if I can find it on the tag tomorrow.

@noahrexion when you have your foot into all the time having fun yes. It got 25 mpg over the 800 mile trip yesterday at criminal speeds. 800 plus miles, 3 gas stops and a Costco run in under 12 hours. ;)

    @shifty`

no windoors, but slick design and has rack / rails already. First glance thought it was white which would be super bonus. It appears silver in the close ups.

Something tells me it's gonna be difficult to get that from Montana to Atlanta

Hunting for (at least) sliders too. Ideally windoors. That one has those weird windows where the rear wing pops out at an angle, vent window only. But bonus if it had windoor-slider combos like this one: But this seller strikes me as one of those "I know what I got here!" types based on the price. And it's for a DC anyway.

I did see this one two hours west of me that's on a DC but looks like it fits long, so may actually be for an AC. But it also has those hokey pop-out vent windows.
