My granddaughter knows that I plan to make her a knife for her 18th birthday and she has requested a neck knife.

She's one of two. Her and my daughters are really tight. She spent her first 9 months with us and grew up within a couple of blocks the rest of the time. Long story, but they spend at least one weekend a month together for a JAM weekend. JAM being their initials. Ditch husbands, kids, dogs and everything else. October JAM is a camping trip in the Blue Ridge. Pictures don't show it, but Ray @gosolo did a nice job with the sheaths. Embossed with JAM.

It's spring assisted. The axis spring, and the blade spring for that matter, are both a little too tight.

This one is made from 52100 steel, which is ball bearing steel, combined with 15n20 alloy carbon steel for the contrasting lines.
I’m not sure if it looks more like flames or feathers, so I’m going to call it “The Phoenix”
I tried to get the spalting to look like a bed of coals down at the handle butt, with an escaping ember that bursts out into flames at the contact with the steel.
    Probably I should be institutionalized…IMG_0526.jpgIMG_0524.jpgIMG_0525.jpg

Damn it, back to the dictionary!!!! :frusty:

Since others are throwing out the whole 'folder' request, etc.... might I suggest before you buy more equipment to do folders, maybe take a gander into the world of karambits... You've basically got a miniature version of the blade on your 'shroom knife.

In the culinary world, it’s a bird’s beak peeling knife. Very useful for a handful of specific tasks.

This feather/flame skinner is available but not yet listed on the website because I have not yet made the sheath. I now have 4 sheaths to make, so I will be starting in that direction soon.

When my brother, in California built the website for me he suggested that I name my knives. It’s something that apparently, many custom knife makers do. I just don’t usually think that way. Honestly, it was my grandkids who named the Phoenix.

Finished with this one today. It’s a bit of a multi purpose knife. With a fairly thick spine and the hollow ground edge it should do lots of tasks well, both in the field and in the kitchen. Handle scales are stabilized and dyed black walnut.

For efficiency, I like being able to do the same step on several knives; it’s better for quality too, cause I can get into the process. The actual output is still pretty much the same. Before these 3, it was a couple months, I think. Seems like I’m averaging around 25 to 30 knives a year.
