Hey guys, so I'm considering getting the set of 4 5100 for my 14 DC. what settings are you running your fronts on? I want to possibly put 33x12.5 on it. For the fact that I want load range e and a decent snow tire.. (ridge grappler or general at2) I can't do that with 275/60r20 tires. Unless I went 295/60r20 but not sure if I can achieve that with 5100? Any common issues after installation? I know I'll have to get aligned. And what are these SoCal and cb shins I'm hearing about? Sorry for the rookie questions!

Edit: I guess 295/60r20 is a smaller tire than a 33x12.5 so I would probably go that route. Will they fit with 5100?

This is a forum that people come to for help. I'm sure they don't want to be told to call some parts dealer.

Plus he can most definitely find a lower price if he looks around a little.

The guy I know is running that size tire on his tundra at the top setting on the 5100's. He's not running anything in the back.

ToyTec is not some "parts dealer". Do your home work. ToyTec specializes in Toyota suspensions specifically and can answer/provide real solutions ..not just anecdotal BS. Can save a lot of time ,money ,and grief...We also can get not only professional help from the ToyTec folks, we can get a forum discount. Do your home work. I'm too busy to do it for you. We give folks here a lot of help. People need to take the time to research all the good info here to see what has been already discussed to death..this issue has been addressed numerous times here on this forum.... :deadhorse:I was simply being light hearted in my response to the OP. This is recommending a "parts dealer??? "Call ToyTec pro's. They will get you on the right path....Let them know your budget and what you want to achieve in the long run." Get real for crying out loud...

It just gets old when people force something. Every thread is "call toytec" "get the boss system" even when people are asking about other suspensions.
I wish I had someone riding me that hard and that often.

So yeah when you say beating a dead horse thats really the Toytec push that constantly happens here.

Every approved vendor here is not some joe blow catch all "parts dealer". They are approved for good reason.....THEY HELP US. Sure I give out my anecdotal BS experiences. All the time. I admit it. We all have our thoughts and opinions which are welcomed here at Tundras.com. I will always suggest what is a good approach to address an issue here. Especially one that has been discussed ad nauseam. Recommending calling someone isn't pushing anything. It's a simple phone call. Nothing more. Nothing less. Get the OME system by the way. Several vendors here sell them. See...."Approved vendors List" These vendors sell pretty much any suspension you can think of. Or you can buy from a joe blow cheap internet outfit. Good luck trying to get some real advice from India. Check out the forum a little more. You will see that there is no shortage of opinions and advice for most suspensions here.

Cb stands for coach builder, he makes shackles for the rear and shims for the front, also some other products.

I'm still on my factory suspension so I can't answer much else for you OP.

@nowayout there some vendors on here that are tried and true. Guys point other members in that direction because of their good experience. As long as it is in good faith, what's the issue?

    I don't think it's a vendor thing, I think it's a reputation thing.

People on here were all about BAMufflers before Keith was even a member/vendor here. He earned that reputation. He also sells Bilstein's and knows a thing or two about suspension... ;)

    Either way, good luck OP.

295/60/20's actually converts to 33.94" x 11.61, so that means a taller (not smaller) tire ... They're just not as wide as a 33"x12.5

Are you planning on mounting these tires on OEM wheels or something aftermarket?

what wheel are you using? if you are using an OEM wheel, you can get a 33" tire on the front with the middle setting on the 5100's. if your wheel has a lower offset, then you are going to have more difficulty fitting a 34" tire and you probably should go with the highest setting on the 5100's.

I have 20x9 +50mm offset wheels, 295/55/20 tires, and 5100's at the middle setting:

I probably could fit a 295/60/20 with some trimming.

    BTW, a 295/60/20 is taller than a 33x12.5/20.

I have fuel kranks with +20 offset. So I am ok with minor trimming. Just don't wanna touch the body mount. So which would be better in your opinion? A 33x12.5 or a 295/60? Like I said I really would like to have range e tires. And these are my 2 options for a 20" wheel with the 2 tires I'm looking at.

with the +20mm offset, I would say the 33x12.5 would be your safest bet to avoid the cab mount. I know others have fit 295/60/20's on +18mm offset wheels, but I am not sure how close they come to the cab mount. really though, it is not a big deal to trim and fill the cab mount. I did it on my Tacoma when I owned it and dozens of people here have done it on their tundras. it is an easy and safe mod.

others can chime in about their experience with the cab mount clearance using 295/60/20 tires on +18/+20mm offset wheels.

EDIT... I would also go with the highest setting on the 5100's for what you are trying to achieve.

    Toytec BOSS kit :stirthepot:

I like customer service over saving a few bucks. When something happens to said shock you purchased from Amazon, where's the seller? Certainly not a phone call away making it a hassle to get them back. Toytec has always treated myself and probably 99.9% of these guys right hence the recommendations.

yeah... that's $1250 vs ~$350 for the 5100's. installation would be about the same though.

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com...spension-System-for-07-Up-Tundra-_p_1219.html

if you are mostly going to be on the street with a little mild off-roading, I would stick with the 5100's. but if you are really going to be hitting the trails hard, I would go with the boss kit.

It's pricey, plus if you then go with new UCA's, it'll be more. Guys really like the 5100 setup though.
The BOSS kit is around $1,200, they do offer a forum discount for their products, including the 5100's.

I was just keeping the pot stirred. With that said, if I had the money I would go with the 5100's, 6112 setup, or the BOSS kit.

Good luck! There is a ton of great info on here, you could spend a ton of time going through it all!

It is mostly street driving. With maybe a very light mild off-road a couple times a year.

if it was me, I would go with the 5100's :)

it is amazing how deep into your wallet you can get with all the lift options. I spent months going back and forth on which lift and tire combo to get for my tundra. I finally settled on the 5100's because of my usage and price.

I am in the same position as you - and 5100s up front seem to make sense. I've spoken with ToyTec, who put me in touch with "the best installer in VA". That guy chatted me up for a while, and we ended in agreement that 5100s are generally accepted to improve the front end feel, achieve a bit of lift, and are a great budget option.

If you have $1600-2k for parts/install/alignment for BOSS, do it. If you have $600 for parts/labor/alignment for 5100, do it!

I had a full suspension upgrade, ICON, on my last vehicle. For the Tundra, I'm likely going to budget it up with the 5100s and call it good.

agreed... when I had my Tacoma, I dumped over $4500 into the lift, UCA's, wheels, tires, sliders, cab mount chop, etc... it was bad-ass to drive that thing around, but I couldn't justify spending that much again for my tundra.

Honestly, I'll do the work my self. I am a truck mechanic (tractor) all I need someone to do is swap springs and alignment. I'll take them out and install new myself. So I'll save there. I do believe I'm gonna go with 5100 on middle setting!

I hear that. I didn't take it that far but far enough. After 50k miles, seals on both front coils dumped all the oil and I didn't notice... lack of oil caused the shafts to get all grooved and destroyed. Somewhere along the line the bearings where the coil mounted to the LCA disintegrated. Took another $800 in "rebuild" and a week of a rental car to get back on the road. No hate towards ICON, but for my daily commuting these days - I'm not going down the suspension wormhole again.

Nice! It's not bad. I did my last with no issue. A few shops quoted me at 2-3 hours labor for 5100 install... probably mostly because they despise having to compress the springs.

Yeah. I would swap springs myself... But I don't like that feeling. Haha. So I hope someone doesn't charge an arm and a leg just for a spring swap.

Right - and from my research it wasn't worth just the springs. Basically I was getting a quote of like $100-$200 to do the springs, or $250 to just do all of it (excluding alignment).

the shop I went to charged about $500 for the 5100's install, the mounting and balancing, and the alignment.
