I am looking to upgrade the suspension on my 2014 CM SR5. My truck has a 3" spacer lift that was put on the truck before I bought it in 2019. I am looking for a smoother ride overall. Currently I am looking at ICON and Old Man Emu, but am willing to research other ideas. My budget is around $4,000 and I would like to get front coilovers, upper control arms, rear leafs, and rear shocks.

I will say 90% of my driving is in town or on the highway. When I do go off road it is not extreme, usually dirt roads with my travel trailer, hunting or fishing. I tow my travel trailer on average once a month and will be using air bags on the rear to help with that.

    ICON
    2.5 Coilover
    Tubular UCA
    Multirate RXT Leaf Springs
    2.5 Rear Shock
    8" U-Bolt Kit
    Diff Drop Kit

    OME
    Remote Reservoir Front Coilover
    Remote Reservoir Rear Shocks
    Dakar Leaf Springs
    Greasable Shackle Kit
    Rear Shackle Bushing Kit
    U-Bolts with Hardware
Brake Line & ABS Wire Relocation Kit

If I price out the Icon parts I get a grand total of $3,700 while the OME kit is about $3800. The Icons I can get UCA's while the OME has remote reservoirs.

I have read some poor reviews on the Icons leaking and having a harsh ride. I have also read that they are meant for high speeds in the desert. Any feedback and suggestions are much appreciated.

I have Icon full setup on my truck for the past 5 years and no leaks. As far as a harsh ride, I have remote resi's with adjustable comp/rebond knobs and with the proper adjustments you have a very nice ride. Are they made for fast offroading, I believe that is a yes but not limited to high speed. Again the adjustment will determine your ride. Also there are some that are much heavier or much lighter than other which could require different valving to dial it in better.

I cannot speak for the OME kit on a Tundra but I ran the OME's on my 1993 LandCruiser for over 10 years and I had no complaints. High speed in the desert with OME is not bad but nothing as good as Icon. If you ever watched an Emu run (OME = Old Man Emu) their head is very steady with little movement... not quite ride like that but not bad.

I could not recommend any one over the other, sorry just my experiences

You could save yourself quite a bit of money and skip the fancy ome remote reservoir shocks. For what you are doing, they won’t help you at all.
I had an icon kit on a 5th gen 4Runner and an OME kit on an 80 series LC and a Nissan frontier. All were good and rode well. The Ome stuff seems to hold heavier loads better.
I wish OME offered heavier, standard height springs for the tundra, I’d go that route.

Some black shocks off an SR5 will ride smoother than any off road kit.

I have a handful of questions that I'll hit you with here, but of the two options that you've provided I would go with the Icon setup.

First off - Do you have any static weight on the truck? Toolboxes, any sort of armor, etc. If you're unladen most of the time you don't want to go with a Dakar leaf pack. It will ride FIRM on an unladen truck. The additional leafs and progressive nature of the RXTs will make for a much more compliant ride on the daily.

For the UCAs they are dependent of how much lift you are trying to get up front. If you still want 3" up front then you'll need new UCAs whether you go with Icon or OME. The one thing that I am not a huge fan of with the Icon tubulars is that it requires you to cut the tie rod down to make them work. I personally think that there are better options out there.

Both of these are valved digressive which will work well for a daily so no concerns there.

Icons are great, kings are great. As far as calving if you order from I think shock surplus or another site (can’t remember off the top of my head) they will do custom valving for free or a small fee. Very helpful. I had it down awhile ago…. I think maybe accutune was the name
