Lol... yes I'm new here but not to TW where they regularly piss and moan about how they DESERVE and will DEMAND a new truck for whatever perceived infraction the dealer service committed, real or imagined.

Spoiler alert: it never ends that way. The demanders seem to think the dealer will just tell them "we're so sorry we want to MAKE IT RIGHT. Please sir go pick out one from the row of new trucks over there and we'll be begging you to please forgive us as you drive away".

Always some pack of birds that jump up and beat the "you DESERVE a new truck" drum. Glad to see that nothing is different here in the Tundra side of the fence...

I definitely agree with the spoiler alert. The op won’t find them handing him the keys to a new truck or a new motor. Good luck even getting a free oil change. But if ur gonna ask for something you might as well go for it.

Sent picture and message to Toyota. Yes in a perfect world they would just provide me a new truck. This is not my fault in any way. There is no expectation for a "USER" to check over a service departments work. I'm not a service manager. I will postwhere it goes from here. Down side is I am out of use of my truck while this works through the system.

Check the oil level about five to 10 minutes after running engine, one side of the stick should show actual level and the other side will show the exaggerated level. This works consistently for me.

On one hand, it's not your responsibility but on the other hand it is your inconvenience.

A couple things you could do to verify what the issue is, because once the dealership has it in their possession you aren't going to know if what they find or say is fully truthful.

I would document a video of the truck running rough, another of you checking the oil and showing the dipstick, and then a 3rd of you draining the oil into a pan and just document how much comes out. Put fresh oil back in, confirm the truck is (likely would be) running smooth again and then notify the offending dealer. I would then take it to a 3rd party and have them assess the truck (even if just a different dealership) - especially if it's drivable after you have fresh oil and proper amount back in it.

Lastly, regardless of how this pans out I would also collect a sample, even if you don't do anything I just mentioned and you have it brought to the dealership - I would go there with a container and take a few ounces of oil that you watched come out of that pan and send it off for analysis.

I don't fault people for not changing their own oil, not everyone has the same access to facility, tools, space, time, etc - but a couple things you can do your diligence on if you drop off your truck to have someone else perform the work is mark your oil filter so you know it was replaced and always check your oil level after you return home.

You are 100% right. These vehicles are not returnable like a bad blender @ BJs. If too much oil got in, the next thing that can happen is to blow out seals. I'd be looking over the oil filter (new one?) and then follow up with any oil leaks. I had a 2008 Sonata that the dealer overfilled. I took off the engine cover and ran the motor. Look like a water park. Dealer went in and replaced a number of seals. Car had close to 60k on it and traded it to go to a Tacoma.

I hope this isn’t one of those posts I used to see all over TW where OP posts a potential problem, gets the masses riled up and then disappears into the ether.

Tell me about it!! When I first joined I couldn’t even get an answer for “ What’s the biggest tire I can install on my truck”. The forum seems to get triggered by that question. Although in hindsight, I can see why….

Last time I played with a box of kittens, I almost lost an eye. Turns out kittens don’t like to swim, they don’t like firecrackers, they certainly don’t know how to fly, and they don’t enjoy wrestling with dogs, large rodents, or bears. I know, I was flabbergasted, too.

NOW WHAT THR HECK HAPPENED TO THE OP’s TRUCK.
