I joined this forum right around the time I ordered my '22 TRD Offroad from Roger's Toyota of Lewiston, Idaho. I bailed in April '22 shortly after the shit show that was all things *Gen 3* started. It was a bit painful, I waited for this latest truck like a kid for Christmas morning. I picked up a newish '20 with the savings I had put away for my '22.

I'm not seeing any reason to head to my dealer. Seems like nagging issues still prevail. Thoughts?
When are you buying a Gen 3, if ever?

Too late, they have all been sold. You’ll have to wait for the 25’s to come out…

I bought mine in July of this year and I am not worried about some of the issues being reported here. The percentages are small and most will be worked out to the satisfaction of their owners.

What drove my decision was getting the model I wanted, with the options I wanted and paying as much below MSRP as I could get.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I also have a 2020 and as much as I like to lease my vehicles and trade every 3 years, I will wait. Dealer was asking what a 1/2ton shouldn't cost. When the time comes and if I still have a boat, then we will see what I get. Because at this point they are all throw away vehicles. One thing I have noticed in all my years of owning all sorts of vehicles, around 40 right about now. The new vehicle high you get when you buy new goes away and all your left with is a payment.

I am nearing a purchase (next month or 1.5 months) on a new 2024. So far getting to about 4k off MSRP for a 2024 Limited. I originally wanted Platinum if it was 2023 but now the Limited has the full digital display which is one of the things I wanted.

Too Funny! I looked at a Gen 2.5 thinking it was the answer. After further review, and knowing they were out-dated with a transmission that is equally out-dated and fraught with issues, and no warranty to go back to I went with a Gen3. Actually less $ than the used Gen2.5's. No issues and it even has a warranty. Sure it has TSB's and even a recall - nothing that can't be fixed or that is worse than your newish '20 had and has. GL with it - enjoy it cause you paid for it. I will do the same.

C'mon, that's bullshit and you know it. FYI, I have a warranty but won't need it. A Gen 3 should come with a 100k, 10 year warranty gratis ala Nissan Titan given the nightmare that Toyota has foist upon their past faithful Tundra owners.

The difference is that I never worry about my 2020 truck leaving me stranded here in remote Idaho. I could never say or think the same of the new incarnation. I wish that it weren't the case! The new TRD Sport is a great looking truck.

My posting here isn't to bash Toyota or the new Gen 3 model--been driving Toyota trucks for 42 years. But I saved with anticipation for what turned out to be a colossal disappointment fraught with problems. Hell, I had every '22 rendering, article and spy photo bookmarked for weekly viewing, I was damned excited about all of it.
My '20 isn't the all-new style that I wanted so badly, but it's simple and reliable, I wish the '22-up were the same, I'd own one.

Will keep an open mind and eye open as the '25's start production.

It is all true. Weak point in your machine is the transmission. Your truck does have tsb's too. Used Gen2.5 with 30k miles was $5k more than new Gen3 SR5 4x4 CrewMax.
I can't speak for you but not knowing where a vehicle has been or how it has been taken care of is a deal breaker. CarFax or not I won't buy someone elses problem. Not saying my Gen3 does not have tsb's and a recall but I know it's history and trust it totally not to leave me stranded anywhere. Again enjoy your truck. I'm happy you got what you wanted. There is a Gen2.5 forum you should post in - at least us Gen3 owners won't have a reason to disagree with you for making a post like your op there.

Bought mine last month, had the same concerns as you. Its always a risk buying new or used no matter how much you research. I had spent about a month prior browsing trying to find the right one at the right price, then the one came across with the exact specs and color I wanted and I couldn't say no.

So far the family and I love our Tundra!

Hey there fellow Palouse person! Online forums are notoriously a hotbed of discontent for new vehicle models. The failure rate of the 3rd gen is pretty much the same as the second gen when it first came out. The same thing happened to the 3rd gen tacoma in the forums, and the same thing will happen to the incoming 4th gen tacoma. I have had my 2023 tundra for almost a year, I had an issue with wind noise on the drivers side which the dealer(pullman) promptly corrected under warranty with replacement door trim, no big deal. During the almost year I have had my tundra I have towed with it (up and down the lewiston grade many times), gone off roading with it. The truck is an absolute blast to drive, seats are comfortable, handles really well, plenty of room for my family and dog. The 3rd gen is literally better in every way, the only question is weather the engine will have the legendary longevity of the old v8, unfortunately only time will tell. My personal opinion is that the TTV6 will hold up just fine, and probably better than the current competition, will it have the same longevity as the 2nd gen V8, probably not.

Seriously? The Aisin transmission used from 07 to 21 was darn near bullet proof. Very few Aisin transmission failures have been reported here over the years. What is your reference source for all these imaginary Aisin transmission issues? It's certainly not here.

I’m 99% sure they were the “good” transmission you could get in the HD gas Rams. They are way overkill for a 1/2 ton and miles better than the transmissions offered by the big 3 in their half tons. Not sure what they’re smokin’ in the 303.

To answer your original question - 2024s are looking very promising as far as ironing out any issues.

The one unknown issue is the engine bearing failures, and the latest reported build that we had was around March 2023. So it's very possible that Toyota figured out this issue and hopefully new trucks don't have it. Supposedly this issue may affect very few trucks... Very few, but to be on a safe side, it's best wait another half year to a year and see if we get any reports of later build 2023s failing. It's best to wait anyway as build quality of Tundras is improving continuously so you'll end up with a more solid build trick.

Most reported this engine bearing issue around 9k-25k miles, so not many 2023s and certainly not 2024s are there yet.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.
0% Dealer Financing is just a gimic and means you paid more for the vehicle up front.
Which is better depends on each of us and our situation.
Some have cash and want lowest price up front. Others write these vehicles off and are only concerned about the "monthly" amount.
Only thing that is certain is everyone that bought any Toyota Tundra in the last two years, overpaid based on historical #'s assuming we go back to normal at some point.

When it comes to likes and dislikes the Gen2.5 Forum posts read similar to Gen3. It does not take long to find posts supporting what has been reported - either way. One thing we all have in common is we drive Toyota. Enjoy what you drive until you don't - then take the leap to something else and hope it works out.

No it's not, but I make more with my money on my side than what I pay in interest. You act like interest on new vehicles is like 15%. It's not a flex to pay for a depreciating asset in cash.

The car market is already switching. It's already been said before, if you paid MSRP or above, you're upside down. I haven't checked my dealer but as for the Big 3, they all all offering discounts. I just bought my wife 23 Acura RDX for around $6500 under MSRP.

I agree with you, but many of us that have been here for YEARS take exception to your comments about the Aisin transmission being a weak point. FYI....I've owned two Tundras. A 07 and a 14. Loved them both.. I've been here awhile. Not leaving.

On my first Tundra - two 4runners (Gen1 and Gen2) and three Tacoma's after that (Gen1, Gen2 and Gen3). All Aisin Transmissions. Like you I'm not leaving either. New to Tundra Forum but I have been on Tacoma World Forum nearly 20 years. Take all the exception you want. Sorry if you got butt hurt. FYI - All Toyota had to do for the Gen2.5 to make it bullet proof and the truck everyone would want was to put a 10 speed transmission in it - that would fix the fuel consumption issues and everything else related. I'd be in that in a heartbeat.

This is what I did when I bought my 2018. This was from a small inheritance so it was basically a free Tundra to me.

    Good on ya.

Mine was ultimately free as well. I scrimped and saved early on and bought my Tundra, but was paid back when my covid-era-invested shale oil stocks came back from the 3/20/20 abyss. It was always the plan and I was thankful it came to fruition.

It's nice not having a payment, screw 9% interest unless it's working my way!
