Wondering what damage could have been done to my 22 Tundra from the dealer overfilling it 3 quarts during oil change? Drove it 2 miles from dealership, turned around and took it back for a total of 4 miles. It was smoking quite a bit. Just wanting some opinions on if it's worth worrying about for that short a distance, and if there's anything specific I should pay attention to.

It’ll be fine. Just came up in pcv. Won’t hurt anything. Maybe see if they’ll change spark plugs for ya complimentary. Or pull yourself. My bet is you’ll see little to zero oil fouling given how little you drove it like that.

Thanks, I was hoping no more than I drove it nothing too bad would result. I may call the dealership back and ask them to change the plugs, or maybe I'll give it a week or two and see if it idles rough or acts differently and if it does then call them.

On a serious note, which is rare for me, overfilling gives rise to aeration of the lubricant reducing its effectiveness as a lubricant. The V35 engine doesn't need help compromising its reciprocating assembly by ne'er-do-wells behaving in an inattentive manner.

    Get documentation.

Agreed. Just make sure they actually document that they overfilled in case anything happens in the future.

I actually did get them to document what happened, and print me out a paper copy so I'd have a physical record and not just on the profile associated with my vin. Not sure if they can edit stuff out after it's added so I wanted it on paper. If the most likely issue is fouled plugs I may just see if it acts squirrelly and if it does pull them myself. I'm not a pro but I'd rather get a shop manual and do it myself then take it to the guys who overshot it by 3 quarts and didn't catch it. I started to do it myself anyway but figured it's a free service so it'd be dumb to pass it up, don't believe I'll do that again.

Yeah, it's too bad, but it's hard to trust shops with stuff like this anymore. I'm sure the youngest, lowest-paid shop guys get to do the oil changes, and I'm sure they're told to do it as fast as possible.

Sad, but very true. If you don't have the ability to do your own oil change, find a reputable small shop in your area with some older and qualified Techs. Stay away from the dealership if you can.
