I don't believe it's a problem but would like to know if anyone else has a 5.7 Tundra with 220k or so miles that when cold and driving away from home the 1 to 2 shift is noticeably slower than when the tranny & temp gauges are pointing straight up center or n.o.temp.
Over all the 1-2-3 shifts are roughly half as fast when cold than when at operating temp.
    Because I've never owned a
5.7 Tundra I'd like to know if this is normal or I need be concerned ?

Have you ever serviced the transmission? A drain and fill might help. I haven’t noticed slower shifts on my ‘13 when cold, just a little more abrupt as is to be expected with cold fluid. The fluid drain and fill procedure is fairly easy on these trucks, but need to be followed fairy precisely (the fluid check procedure seems a little tricksy but is really quite simple). 4 or 5 quarts of Toyota or Aisin WS ATF, a drain pan, and some 1/2” pvc tubing or small transfer pump will get you there.

If the transmission has never been serviced, I would recommend a couple drains fills spaced a week or so apart.

The transmission also has a different shift schedule when cold than when warm.

I thought it was an issue as well, but after doing a full transmission service it still happens so I'm not to worried about it.

I believe transmissions lock out higher gears until a certain temperature is reached. Kinda like @Wynnded said above about "shift schedules".

    Thanks guys. Very helpful info.
Follow up question.. is there a link or a thread in this Forum on how to remove"all" the tranny fluid in addition to the pan underneath ? I don't guess you can remove the fluid in the converter less you remove it from the housing...idk I was thinking more along the lines of fluid in the lines and radiator and what's in the pan.

Yup I had the same issue but it remained the same after a flush-n-fill. I also noticed the truck shifts into 6th around 45 mph usually, but when cold, it stays in 5th until about 55 mph, Im guessing to just warm everything up quicker and save the engine and tranny.

What is the expected norm on how many miles the 2wd 5.7 6 speed auto tranny can go before a replacement or rebuild ??
I know the motors on occasion can go a million miles but I've never heard anything of the 6speed tranny. Is there a thread discussion here ?
