I'm sitting at a bit over $600k (current inflated value) for my home; and last year we payed about $2,400 in taxes for the year...

 

Yeah well be happy about that. The county I live in has one of the highest property tax rates in the state. The recent Homestead tax credit boost was sorely needed.

I thought our county was the highest..
When we were house hunting in 2007 we wanted to live in Rockwall County but THEY had one of the highest tax rates.
Now our county is almost as high as theirs..

 

Property taxes are 1% of assessed value here, $2,696 for yours

 

I don't even see Rockwall Co on this list...

our Texas property tax is so high to afford all the illegal aliens.

think about it. Schools, healthcare , auto insurance the state covers the lions share of all that.

Yeah, the big 3 need to clear all those hidden back lots full of new but old inventory. I'm predicting further inflated prices on the remaining 2023's.

 

You pay one way or the other. Most states fall between 8 to 12% total tax burden regardless of what the tax is called.

 

Well I'm tired of bitchin about property taxes so they need to name it something else.

 

Let's not turn this into an HOA discussion, we all know most of them are worthless.
But to the point of your post, I write extortion payment on the memo line of my check when I pay my HOA fees.
It's one of the few things I actually write a check for these days.
