The big three should just fire them all and hire people that want to work. People apply for a job because they need to pay their bill. They agree to a compensation that the company and the possible employee agree to. The unions make the employees suddenly entitled to more than what they agreed to. I work because I have bills to pay and family to raise. Never in my life would I become part of some fool club that then could make me not work and pay my bills while the upper part of the fool club is still getting paid. Absolutely not!

Yes I do know what I'm talking about. I've worked at big aircraft manufactures that were mostly union. My neighbor (great guy) was high up on the fool club so when all the employees went on strike for months and couldn't afford to provide for their families, my neighbor had full smiles because the union was paying him all his wages since he was a senior. It just wasn't fair to all those people who actually do the work to be put into positions to make no money.

Unions do not protect people like they were initially intended. Their only basis now is entitlement!

Move those factories to another country where people want to work.

I was with you until the last sentence. It sickens me how many jobs are being outsourced from this continent these days. Yes, workers in other places want to be paid less but, in my experience, you get what you pay for.

Well said. I'm self-employed and have been stagnant at the top of my field for a while and finally realized that if I want to do better, I need to pivot. So I'm growing a second business that uses all my experience and accomplishments in the first to earn money while I sleep.

The opportunities are out there, and they are growing in ease of availability simply due to the sheer number of people who refuse to try.

The ole bootstraps argument gets old. Some of us give 100% and just want a little more than scraps. I made my company $19M last year in revenue. All me. No bullshit. I still did not clear 6 figures.

This year we aren't even getting a raise and I'm on track to make around $12k less than last year because they cut our overtime and bonuses.

Me working harder only results in more money for the corporation.

The only reason I live comfortably is because we're dual income with no kids.

I don't know you or any details of your situation other than what you just shared. If that had happened to me, I'd calmly and reasonably state my case and my compensation needs to my superiors, and if they weren't met, I'd be gone. I'm sorry man, that's abominable.

I'd be talking to your manager about the pathway to a raise or find a new job and resign.

So my wife was in total disgust with her last job and complained a lot. I finally had to sit her down and have "the chat"...because I wasn't going to listen to it one more night. I gave her some advice and helped her on a journey that took a couple months. She quit her old job after earning a killer promotion and now clears me by 12.00 per hour. Always wanted a suga momma.

I tell you what. Print out a pay stub, fold it and place it in your front pocket. Every time you feel like complaining about the job or pay, pull out that paystub, look at it, and say "best fucking job ever." If you don't feel like you are getting your worth...go find a company that will. It's scary...I know. I've done it several times.

It is sorta liberating working in a field where you won't ever get rich or make big bucks. One less thing to bitch about on a daily basis.

That has been my experience as well and it's why my views on unions have changed over the years. My step dad retired from UPS after 43 years. The Teamsters are the only reason he made such good money. Most truck drivers make considerably less. UPS still made $13.9 billion in profit last year.

My wife works for a small family owned company and has received at least a 10% raise almost every year.

The GM CEO makes 30 million a year plus bonuses. Personally for me making a 6 figure salary, this economy has taken it toll on me and my family. My wages haven't gone up the same rate as inflation. So, with that said, those same guys are on the same boat. The higher ups make millions and keep getting raises but the worker that makes that possible get shitted on. It's getting to the point where there will be no middle class. Either rich or poor. Some of the replies I see on here are defending the ultra rich that could careless if you lost your job tomorrow. The majority of the companies in America today are this way. They only care about money, that's it.

It's complicated. I'm in a volatile industry that's doing horrible this year. My boss is great. He's not the issue. I've only been here two years and definitely not afraid to switch companies. I'm going to give it a little longer and what happens.

I just want to be valued for what I do. Here or somewhere else. I can understand why a lot of people are feeling like the game is rigged. At some point, working harder only does so much.

Corporations and Wall St run this country. I'm not sure we fully understand how much power they are weilding at this point.

I've averaged 50-60hrs a week for 5+ years. I'm salary. I think I have a mental problem because now it feels normal.

60 hours was normal for me, 70 was typical. I've done 80+ hours per week quite regularly too. I was all hourly when I welded, 1.5x time after 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week. Oil and gas ftw. I'd go weeks without a day off too. That sucked.

I do 70 hours a week, 140 hours in a 14 day rotation with the occasional extra long day now. Anything over 8 hours in a day double time so I get a minium of 28 hours of double time OT per rotation now. That's due to the union I have to be in for this job, so while I fault the union for many things, I have to admit this one did a decent job negotiating.

They have conditioned us to believe that is normal and acceptable. It shouldn't be. It's been proven that productivity actually starts to decline before you get to that point.

Yes. He values me. His hands are tied though since no one is getting a raise this year. He's also making a lot less this year. Things are looking like they might improve by Q1 so that's why I'm waiting to see what happens. Having a good supervisor makes the other issues a lot more tolerable....For now.
