Nope. Just giving friendly advice. If I wanted to inform on somebody I wouldn't post about it. I'd just hit the button and scroll by.

It's a free country but there is a huge amount of animosity growing towards people moving here from out of state. Wages in TN are pitiful but people keep moving here with west coast wages and it's killing the locals. I know lifelong residents that have been priced out of the housing market.

I think TN is great and I understand why people want to move here but others are borderline hostile towards new people. My house was worth $250k in 2015 and is now worth $500k. Not sustainable.

No way to stop it though. Like I said, free country. We're like the 48th least taxed state. Nice climate. For people nearing retirement it's almost perfect. For everyone still working it's brutal. Our rent in Knoxville grew by some of the highest amounts in the country during COVID and we're still around 97% occupancy.

Same thing that has happened here and all over the country. If people get borderline hostile, I'll deal with it a different way. I had a conversation with a TN local two years about this very thing. Since their house has doubled in value, sell and move to Colorado then. Problem solved.

    Very true.

Honestly I think most people will be nice to you. Some will cuss you privately. Our neighbor are from CA and we like them. They just wanted a better place to raise their kids which I understand.

I think a lot of it is about how a 'newby' approaches their move into a new neighborhood, state, etc...

If you walk in like you own the place cuz you sold your previous home for a chunk and then pay cash for a home in a less expensive area (all the while acting like you're better than everyone), then yes I think folks may be a bit fed up while they still struggle to make ends meet. However, if you approach it from a perspective of 'hey we are new here and want to contribute to and be a part of this great community', then I think you'll get a warmer welcome...

Most folks that have a problem w/outsiders get fed up when someone from out of the area moves in and then wants to change everything to meet their needs or what they are accustomed to...

No different than moving into a new country :anonymous:

I’m in the greater Nashville area. It’s a transient enough place that no one is really hostile to newcomers. But we've had so much development. Too much. Downtown smells like pee all the time and has far more aggressive panhandlers and parking scammers.

I have also watched recent property tax increases (that came on the heels of a devastating tornado no less) push fixed income retirees out of their 1100 sq ft homes, only to see the home bulldozed and three “tall skinnies” pop up on that lot priced at $500-700k.

The real charm of Tennessee is in some of the small towns. In middle Tennessee, the farther you get from country music Las Vegas, the more reasonable prices become.

Sad, but you could literally take "Nashville" out of that statement and plop in any growing urban area into it. "Progression" they call it.

At this point in my life I doubt I'll move, but I have often thought of getting out of Tucson. I would still stay in AZ, but move north to a smaller town that's not so damn hot and not so fucking li... (redacted political comment for fear of ban hammer).

I can't do anything about that. Either someone is nice or not. Doesn't matter to me. They would benefit greatly to have me as an ally than an enemy. One of my neighbors is finding that out the hard way right now.

There are high paying jobs in TN. One just needs to work for it. I discussed about it earlier in this thread.

The following is not meant for you @FirstGenVol:

I don't complain about my wage nor bash my career choice. Other do all the time. In fact, I love going to work. I wish most people could have career experience like that. I really do.

When I was about to be honorably discharged from the Navy, a high ranking officer said "you will never make this kind of money if you don't stay in." I just laughed. I was separated June 1997. By Oct of 1997 I was making more than my commanding officer.

When I didn't like 20.00 per hour, I worked to get 30.00. When that wasn't enough, I worked to 45.00 per hour. Eventually that wasn't enough so I obtained 55.00 per hour. The list goes on. I thrive on making my organization a buttload of money with little to no supervision. In return they offer me a great wage, benefits, retirement (which I will take full advantage of in 12 months) when I turn 50. With my pension I shouldn't need to touch any other investments until 65.

When people with different vehicle plates are in Colorado, I don't care. It's revenue and big business. Have fun while you are here. If one feels the need to buy some property and build a mansion...you go boy/girl and live the best life you can.

If I don't like the atmosphere, I'll change it.

Well I'm going to pull the pizza out of the oven I bought for my hard working coworker and watch the Gators kick Tennessee's ass at Florida as a treat for his accomplishments (he is leaving and it's a bitter sweet weekend).

No, still hot and although more in line politically, it's a bunch of uppity assholes. I was looking at Prescott, but damn, smaller town but higher prices.
