I can only assume so, now that I look at the numbers. If they sold over 100,445 units in 2000, that averages out to 8,370 units produced each month. So you can say that mine was the 927th produced in May 2000.

 

Last 5 of your vin should be production number.

Last 6, sorry. If I'm right @RUSTYNUTS should have a pretty low number on the last 6.

 

Never guessed I'd still be driving mine 22 years later (an '01). The only non-wear item I've replaced was a rear outer axle seal.

I still see these things on the road daily, sometimes multiple times.

Toyota didn't make much money on these trucks, I wouldn't guess.

Interesting. So I have a lower last 6 of the VIN number yet you have a lower truck number and both produced in the same month

 

According to TIS and few other online sources, the # 927 and # 256 simply means that was how many were processed on a certain day in May of 2000.

 

That precarious. I need @empty_lord or another Toyota dealer employee to run my VIN and find her exact birthday.

@ryanwgregg Thank you for the PM. I can now mark the calendar as my truck was born on 05/09/2000.

 

My guess is they wait until the paint had at least a couple of days to cure before stickering (if not baking the shells), or they don't get applied until the truck gets further down the line a day or three later. EDIT: Or they get stickered at the same time as the dash and its VIN badge go in, so there's less risk of mix-up.

We had been shooting the shit about this in the WHYDTYT thread a year or two ago, but in the other direction: Last 1st Gen Tundra ever made.

I don't remember where we landed, this got the convo started. I don't recall if a thread was ever created.

I know mine was ordered July 2006, and has parts from August 2006, but is stickered with production of 9/2006, and I remember we had at least one other member whose production was October 2006, so I'm definitely not the newest/last.
