    Hello,

After reading the engine failure threads front to back and watch car care nut youtube vids.. if i start my truck only to move it from the end of my driveway into my garage or vice versa is that going to ruin the engine?

You wouldn't happen to be related to a certain apprentice from the "Moehnke Training Academy," would you?

It won't ruin the engine as such but you're limited to 250 starts per year. After that, it's $10 each by credit card, PayPal or ApplePay. This includes Auto start/stop. Just be careful how you use them.

What OP needs to worry about are mailboxes and sheer cliffs.

I think OP should just push his truck into the garage to avoid engine failure.

It's Friday somewhere, isn't it fellas?

It’s not going to hurt the engine in the short run at all. The engine in any car/truck produces internal condensation during start/warm up. engines need to operate at normal operating temperature for at least several minutes to burn off the water.

If its down hill in either direction it may be a good idea to put the truck in neutral and coast, it would decrease your engine wear by 50%.

OP could purchase a gross of big end bearings and happily forge ahead like the 5.7 crowd.

Mebbe a spare crank for good measure.

A very dear friend of mine on here went ahead and purchased a spare truck, leaving nothing to chance. That... is commitment.

Lots of comedians on this forum.

OP, your question isn't stupid. Generally speaking, short start/stop sessions can be hard on an engine due to condensation, as mentioned above. It's more of an issue in humid climates. It's always best for an engine to reach full operating temps before it's shut off. That said, I wouldn't worry about it as long as your engine is used normally most of the time.

FYI, it's fairly common knowledge that as much as 75% of the wear on an internal combustion engine, over its lifespan, occurs when starting it. That's because the moment when all the internal parts begin moving there is no oil flowing. Due to oil formulations, there is a thin film of oil that remains on those parts, but it doesn't provide adequate lubrication to prevent the inevitable wear. That's why I think the auto stop/start feature on new cars is probably the dumbest auto engineering idea to come about in decades. I highly recommend turning that feature off every time you use your truck.

But only a handful of really good ones. I yearn to become one of them.

    Yes.

Once you drive the truck home from the dealership you're supposed to park it and never start the engine again. Immediately throw away the key fob as soon as you get inside. This will ensure you don't ruin your engine and your truck lasts virtually forever. It's on page 286 of the owner's manual.
