So I recently installed this (https://amzn.to/3L27q2W) Android Auto adapter for my stock stereo. I have a 2018 Limited with JBL. I immediately removed it because I wasn't happy with the quality and interface of it, and put my stereo back to stock. Now my backup camera no longer works. Anyone have any ideas? I just went and double checked all connections, everything is in it's home and fully seated.

Doesn't work at all? Blank screen, bad image, or not change in screen at all when you shift to reverse?

Some guesses here since I've never pulled my Tundra stereo.
Seems unlikely Toyota would have left bare lead like that wire you pointed out so I'm sorta focused on that. Just doesn't have a clean factory appearance on it to me.

    0. Every plug only fits into 1 spot, right? It's not even possible to plug one into wrong spot?
    1. You didn't undo or move any grounds that might not be getting good contact now?
    2. Positive you didn't cut any wires when you did original install?
    3. No other bare wires visible besides that one end?
    4. With HU pulled out but still plugged in, does it work? If so, I'd guess that bare end is grounding out on something when get's slid back in dash.
    5. Tug that bare end wire, is there slack in it such that it could reach all the way to the HU?
5a. If has slack, maybe it was originally crimped with one of those other wires and just happened to come loose when you moved bundles around? Any other loose wires?
5b. If it doesn't pull up much or at all, you might peel the tape a bit more to see if there is another end in there it is supposed to be with.

Mine will do that when I disconnect the HU or disconnect the battery for an extended period time.

What you’ll need to do is drive the truck around then put it in reverse. Should show up. If not, disconnect the positive, reconnect, drive, then reverse. It’s weird, but it eventually comes back. Other people experience this same problem

As odd as the bare lead seems, this must be something that was already there based on the way it's cut. It does not appear to have been torn out in any way, and I have no other bare leads.

    0. Every plug is in it's original position.
    1. I didn't undo any wires, only plugs. I double checked there were no loose connections.
    2. No wires were cut.
    3. No bare wires aside from the one I found that seems OEM.
    4. With the HU out, but all plugs in place, still no luck.
    5. No slack in the wire.

I'll have to give this a try. When this originally happened, disconnecting the battery and reconnecting was one of the first things I did. I guess it's good to hear that I'm not the only one that has experienced this. I'll mess with a bit and see if I can get it to come back. Fortunately it's not a necessity to have the cam, just helps a lot hooking up to my camper.

Do you by chance have the anytime backup camera mod? I've had mine for 18 months and starting to lose by backup camera after I use the switch to check the front camera. New switch is coming.

I remember when I installed mine there were two plugs on the back of the HU were very similar if not the same. It look me a few minutes to find the correct one.

My battery recently died and the cam went out. Turns out it’s removing the negative terminal that does the trick. Not the positive terminal that I mentioned earlier.

Did you connect the ground wire? Put a ring terminal on it and ground it to a bare metal part of the chasis. This happened on my daughters 4 runner and once grounded it worked.

Maybe you may have a loose ground terminal on your HU.
