Hi everyone. I decided to take on the job myself. I tore everything off the engine. had the head milled, put it all back on to spec and now i have coolant in the oil and noticed a coolant leak somewhere near the water pump. i am thinking its the metal tube with orings on each end at the top of the front cover that are causing the coolant in the oil. thoughts?

Also there was some water from a rain storm that got in between the cylinder walls before i could get the heads back on. I thought i got a lot of it out but thought perhaps thats a normal path of the coolant. i am thinking of just finding the coolant leak and fixing that. Then change the oil a few times to see if it gets better?

so i found out that the pipe between the block and water pump has a bad o ring seal. is there a way to take that pipe out from on top of the block or do i have to take the whole front cover off again?

The question would be where is the O ring located? is it behind the timing cover?, is it underneath the intake manifold? I'm unsure of which pipe you're talking about. I've done my water pump, and there are a few metal pipes around the pump.

The one on the front cover. I guess I was too rough when I put it back on. Attach is the picture of my fix. I took off the top of the engine instead of redoing the timing cover again.

The same o-ring rolled on me when I was reassembling after my valley plate re-seal. A little assembly lube got it installed properly the 2nd time.

If it was the front ring would that cause coolant in the oil? Is there a way for that to get in the timing cover?

Don't think so, but I'm not sure. I was filling up my radiator after the repair and was about 80% full when my leak appeared. I immediately recognized what it was and started the tear down again.

Might be worth some reading or asking over at the ih8mud forum. Most of my info concerning the valley plate leak came from there.

Yep all fixed. Had a bad injector in the same cylinder that started it all which freaked me out till I knew it was the injector.
