I had a BakFlip MX4 on my RAM and it was pretty good. The fit and finish weren't perfect and it did leak a very small amount. I also wasn't a huge fan of having it up against the back window, but for the few times I had to have the bed completely open, it wasn't bad. My single biggest complaint is how easy it is to open with a coat hanger if you know what to do. There is ZERO security IMHO. With that said, I never had anything stolen.

The other option I am strongly considering is a Bak Revolver X4s. I have no experience with it, but it looks good.

I haven't really looked at any other options for a bed cover at this point. I would like to make a decision soon.

TIA for your comments and thoughts.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
None of these covers are going to stop someone who wants to get in from prying it off. Not even my fancy $2k retraxpro.

If security is your biggest concern then a standard Diamondback cover will work. It will however really limit your ability to use your full bed. They did just come out with another model, the switchback, which is a semi trifold but it appears to not be as secure. Probably still more secure than other trifolds you may find though.

I’ve had a Diamondback since 2017. Zero regrets. I’ve had several times where something wouldn’t fit in the bed and I strapped stuff on top. Ice chests, mountain bikes, etc. I take a weeklong fishing trip every year and always strap extra ice chests on top loaded with food and drinks on the way and seafood coming back. I would be limited without it.

Mumba 18x9 ET 12, BFG KO2, FOX suspension, diamond back HD cover w/ rack, LED head & fog light bulb, TRD rear sway bar, timbren enhancement, RAS helper spring, avs auto shade, Carhartt front seat cover, bench seat cover
You have a full bed on top of the cover, with their racks, you could triple stack…

what makes you think it’s not as secure? I’m flip floping between the SE and switchback. I also feel the same, way. I can’t explain it though and am trusting diamondbacks engineering.

    just wondering,your,thought process

I think it’s probably totally fine for 99.9% of use cases but they do cover it on their website as well.

“Are the hinges vulnerable to tampering due to them being on top of the cover w/ the bolts exposed?”

Not as vulnerable as you may think. We utilize flat-head machine screws and nylon lock-nuts to fasten our hinges to the cover. The nylon lock-nuts make it very difficult to loosen the screw from the topside of the cover only.

the hinge tampering question,is asked and answered for both the se, and switchback. Same hinge “engineering”.

I was thinking maybe the switchback was “less” secure because the se is “clamped” at the cab, middle, and tailgate, whereas switchback is “clamped” at the cab, and tailgate only. The middle section isn’t clamped but depends on the front and back pieces. Just my take.

I like se because tried and true. I like switchback more for looks, and I’m scared to be one of the “first” to try things.

Interesting. For some reason I thought it was different.
