    It’s called corrosion. The clamp has already partially disintegrated. You should be able to wire brush it to get a better view underneath the crud that’s accumulated on it.

    I thought it may be a sintered filter tucked in the sleeve, but doesn't seem so.

    Good question. I originally thought it was part of the fuel pressure regulation that filters out pulsations but I’m not so sure.

    I just know i was unable to get a replacement for that section which goes to the fuel rail since it was discontinued.

    The part I have listed is 23801-50050 for that section and no dealer could find it after they verified the part number and availability themselves. I wonder how you're getting a different part number unless it was changed during the middle of 2002?

    Please check out 2000-2001 to see if it's the same number I have listed. That may explain things.

    @Bmktw2 should probably just use the EPC DATA site against his VIN to find the part. There's waaaaaay less guesswork.
