I have a 2005 SR5, 4x4 not engaging. In testing I found the ADD actuator to be bad, but have brand new transfer case actuator tthat is functioning. However, the tcase actuator will pull the plunger out for 4hi and 4lo but is not able to push the plunger back in for 2wd. I took the spline gear out of the actuator and found that when not under load, the actuator gear will spin both ways, out and in.

So at this point I'm wondering if the transfer case is toast? When manually pulling the plunger out and in to the different positions there seems to be quite a bit of resistance....

I guess my question is, is my tcase done for or is there some reason that plunger would be stuck and the actuator unable to push it back in?
    Thanks for any advice
