Did anyone have any good luck with a skid plate offered for sale on Amazon? It's offered for sale by HECASA at much cheaper price than oem toyota trd skid. No reviews on it yet on Amazon so I'm a little hesitant to pull the trigger on it

No experience with it, but I wouldn't do it. As painful as it is to spend the money for a proven one like RCI or the others, you get what you pay for.

If you're just getting one for looks, go for it and let us know how it is. If you want actual protection and what it's designed for, spend once and cry once.

It's more for looks and oil filter access than anything else. I was hoping that it would do the trick for what I intend to use it for. I have the valhalla cat plates already in the rear and taking the original splash shield off every 5k miles is a little bit more time consuming since i change the oil filter every time

Yeah if it's just for looks then give it a shot. Looks like a knock-off TRD skid plate.

The RCI in 10ga steel and powder coated is only a little over 100 bucks more though.

Kenwood dmx1037s. Hertz K170 door speakers/ tweeters, Infinity Reference 7005A 5 channel amp, 2 JBL WS1000 10 inch subs. DDI Seat Jackers. RCI engine Skid and Vahalla's Shields (front and rear) 1/4 aluminum. Stillen intake. LED Pro Headlights with iHacker harness. Cartrimhome auto up and down window switches. Coupe's aluminum battery tie down. Color matched mirror caps. Color matched door handles. Chalk bag cup holder. NFab podium step bars, herculined. Powerstop z36 drilled slotted brake discs w/ceramic pads.
I was in the same boat a while back, I saw the diy mods to add doors or cutouts to the thin stock skid plate and considered that, looked at the trd skid plate, and the RCI. Ultimately decided to go with an aluminum 1/4 RCI skid plate for the winter salt conditions here in northern IL and the fact that it will clear larger tires.

The RCI skid plate bolts up great with the cat shields

You really should not block the view of everything with a skid plate during oil changes. I'd buy it, but also drop it for proper maintenance. That said, I only change the oil in the fall and spring so I would not be hot or cold while wrenching. Sometimes the TRD version pops up on craigslist or marketplace for about the same price too.

The "looks" of a skid plate? I will never undestand that, along with a couple dozen other aesthetic things people do to their trucks. Who the fucj is going to see or notice your skid plate? Virtually no one. And you won't either unless you are outside of your truck and bent over.

Spend the bucks and get a well made plate. Or don't and just waste your money.

If I remember correctly, a lot of folks have to repaint these. So get the raw and coat them yourselves. I forget what product folks were swearing by. I'm sure someone will chime in.

Probably Raptor liner is what you are referring to. I'm in FL and have had my RCI for almost 3 years and no issue with the powdercoat.

I think a lot of people prefer to diy paint skid plates if they are actually going to use them as skid plates so they can do touch ups at home with a rattle can, same with sliders. Steel is easier to reform but with OP and my winter weather in northern IL and the salty roads, aluminum is going to be the better bet unless this is going to be built up as a trail rig.

I was considering talon skid but not sure if it would work with valhalla cat shields. I already have them on my truck and was looking to get an aluminum skid. I know rci is a good option

I’d bet the talon shield would mate easily to the valhala shield.
    Very similar design.
