Noise at Low Speeds

So I just purchased my 2015 Tundra today, and luckily it's got about 2k miles left before the comprehensive portion of the factory warranty is up.

At roughly around 25 MPH there seems to be what I would describe as some kind of a tire or road noise that sort of slowly pulsates repeatedly. It does seem to be somewhat proportional to speed, and the pulsating goes away (or perhaps just becomes more constant?) as you accelerate closer to 40 MPH or more.

I'll probably take it to the dealer next week, but I was curious if any of you have heard similar noises with your trucks? In general, how would you describe the amount of road noise at highway speeds? I'm wondering if this might be a bearing or something.

 

Thanks for the response. I've read about that a bit in other posts, but usually people describe the noise a little differently. If that really is the case, it's a horrible design. It's pretty loud, and the constant "wom wom wom" could get pretty annoying.

But you could very well be correct. I'll post whatever I find out at the dealer.

 

Thanks for the info! No lift installed. I believe the truck is completely stock, but I haven't gone over everything with a fine tooth comb yet.

I'll try to drop it off tomorrow if I can. Was yours fixed under warranty? I sold a nightmare F-150 before buying this so I'm just hoping it doesn't turn into another poor design/incompetent mechanic scenario.

I will do some more research about the ECGS bushing.

 

Been through this all ready with my 2011 taco. Ecgs bushing fixed the issue. Switch into 4hi and see if the noise goes away, If it does then it's the needle bearing. Not a bad job lil time consuming but be patient. Took me about 2hrs start to finish with air tools and a post lift.

 

Sorry I should have mentioned that it's a 2WD truck. Does the ECGS bushing fix still apply?

 

If the wheel bearings are good I have a thought.

I would run your hand over the tires and look for any uneven wear. If the alignment was out of whack and the tires wore unevenly or they weren't rotated, it could (hopefully) just be road noise from the tires. If that's the case, a tire rotation should help.

Don't worry, this won't be an other F-150 headache!

 

Well good to know I can at least rule out the ECGS fix.

I believe the tires are brand new. It looks like the dealer that sold me the truck slapped some new ones on there.

Also an update... apparently I was WAY off on my speeds. The sound can be noticeable at 25 mph, but it peaks right at 50 MPH. Over 55 it pretty much disappears, but between 45-55 you can actually feel the vibration from it in the floor.

 

Sounds like that rules out uneven tire wear.

Heard back from the dealer rather quickly today. Turns out that the left rear shock was leaking, the right rear bearing was shot, and it needed a slight alignment.

We will see how the noise is when I get it back tomorrow afternoon. Just glad that it seems like my local dealer is on the ball.
