Long story short, I purchased this from an estate with the intent to flip 11/2 yrs ago. 72k miles loaded with everything from moonroof to Sony premium sound with new 20” BFG KO2’s. WNY truck so has rust on underbody. Took me until now to get the title so, with the market being somewhat normal now, I’m not going to be able to capitalize on the purchase (paid $11,500 for truck) . Hate to say this, I really like the truck so I think I’m going to register and drive it. My son just got his drivers license so would be very convenient and would keep miles down on my tundra…..never ever thought about a Ford, been reading up a lot about them along with their issues so have been working on them (changed plugs today which were super easy ) . Going to spray undercarriage tomorrow with carwell and start working on a few other small issues. Have to admit, tundra has been pretty boring…. 98k miles and haven’t had to do anything to it other than brakes and oil change. Ford I’m thinking will be another story, kinda looking forward to it. Go ahead, start roasting me!

Good luck. Hated my ecoboost. Blew the cats out. Water puddled in the intercooler. Got less mileage than the 2011 diesel I traded in for it. Sounded like crap. Randomly threw a check engine light. Capless gas filler would stick and not open.

Yeah, if it gets too problematic, I will move it down the road. Need to replace a rear O2 sensor also. Two things I really like are the seats and the electronic locking rear differential … runs really strong too just sounds like @#$&!

If you want to try it. Give it a go. Why roast you over it?

I wouldn't really agree that the market is back to normal just yet. I still see lots of stuff going well above what it should be, and selling. I am starting to see some of the real garbage come back down in prices though. Trucks still seem to be riding a bit high, not peak high, but high. At least listings in my area...

Maybe go down both routes, fix it and list it, drive it while listed and see if its working out. If it doesn't sell, no harm no foul, you can either drop the initial ask, or remove the list if you really like it.

This is an example of similar (F150 FX4) listed in my area.

Not sure I would give a new driver a bi-turbo V6 truck...but for that cost it's pretty damn tempting. If the insurance is decent...

My in-laws had a 2012 F-150 EB from brand new to 150k miles and didn't do anything to it. Maybe they were lucky. Who knows.

More... These are the 3.5 specific, cutting out the V8s... Still looks the same situation to me. This is with the search moved to mid US 79070. No idea why they are showing me a jeep though.

I would be willing to bet you could flip that truck for a decent amount over 11.5K without a money light on and very clean.

I had a 2013 Platinum with the 3.5 ecoboost. Drove it 8 years and 100k miles, pretty much trouble free. Great tow vehicle, although there’s not much eco when you hook up a trailer, but that’s not unique to Ford.

My buddies are Ford gear heads at work. I believe they were drilling weep holes at home in their intercoolers to stop condensation. I remember them saying Ford fixed that problem but not sure what year. One of them just lemon-lawed his 19 for transmission issues. Several others have had minimal issues. If you like it, drive it! I can guarantee that a F150 4x is going to be double for your 16 year old on insurance costs unless you have him as a primary on some other older commuter rig.

The weep hole is a decent "fix" for the first gen EB up until the 2015 refresh. That engine doesn't like to be babied so keep the oil clean and run it. It wasn't until early '16 that Ford rolled a fix into production for a timing chain rattle, so if you hear a crazy noise coming from the engine bay don't ignore it. Lots of YT videos to help.

I used to own a 2016, which was the last year of the first gen EB. I miss that motor...

Got it on the road, after first road trip I could tell it needed a lot of attention on the brakes. Ended up replacing all rotors, pads and rear calipers. Hardest part of the job was getting lug nuts off because they were so swelled from corrosion then getting the wheels off the hubs! Luckily, my buddy had a set of new Ford lug nuts just sitting around…the rust underneath wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be which was a bonus. Changed rear O2 sensor and come to find out the wires going to the sensor were chewed on by some animal which threw the code… Been putting some miles on it, with the codes all cleared and the new brakes that aren’t hanging up I’m getting around 20 mpg. Still need to change out the oil and spray the underneath, probably do that this week. Been reading up on the intercooler “weep hole” and that looks like a no brainer, probably do that this week also….

FYI, the lug nuts aren't solid. If you don't want them to swell up again you'll want to replace them. I think I bought Gorilla Lug Nuts when I owned my '13. Mine were so swollen they literally had to cut them and just barely avoided damaging the posts themselves.

    Yup, I was there…..!!

drilled out my intercooler, only about two tablespoons of oil came out. Started it up later and pulled out of driveway to learn when I came home there was a whole line of oil dumped on driveway the whole way down…..glad it’s out of the intercooler I guess… lol!

Oh yeah, when I bought my '13 (5.0L), F150Forums was full of guys who had occasional issues with their turbos, and ended up drilling out the intercooler because the dealership @ that time wouldn't do squat. Our local one would, later on.

My 2010 Tundra always needs something. Just the other day I had to dust off the engine and clean the windshield!:threadjacked:

Mine never had that issue, but started rounding off after a few years of tire changes. Ford uses some soft metal.
