I've never owned a winch. Growing up, my dad always had one on his pickups and used them for everything from getting unstuck, to moving a tool shed in the yard.

I'd like to have one and initially was going to get a dedicated front winch bumper.

But, a decent bumper starts at $1500.

I would like a new front bumper with more beef and tire clearance, and there are plenty that are good looking but not winch compatible.

Thinking about getting one of those winch cradles that goes into a receiver hitch for $100.

Interested in hearing the pros and cons of both setups.

Receiver mount winch here. Keeps the winch away from weather and thieves, allows for use on other vehicles, tractors, or trailers, can be used without a vehicle at all, can go into places where your truck cannot, heavy to carry, takes up storage space. I just like the overall versatility of the receiver mount. Synthetic line will significantly reduce the weight. All of that said, a hi lift jack and high rated come a long also go along with me and both are also great for winching plus they are very reliable and versatile. Whatever you do, do it safely and good luck.
