04 Toyota Tundra replaced starter non stop clicking

Hello my friends, I have this vehicle that came in, stated he tried to replace battery, put the battery in with a new ground for battery(was cut off), replaced the ground coming up from the block to the firewall on passenger side fuses looked good. Replaced starter as well, when I try to put the battery negative back on It has repeating non stop clicking of the starter. The starters rarely fail, its usually the cables.

I can't really say without being there, but it sounds like your friend got the wiring wrong. I suspect a ground wire, got swapped with a positive wire on the starter. The starter solenoid is acting like a relay, the instant it comes on, its grounding out, activating, which cuts the connection because it's wired wrong, turning off, and then instantly turning back on.

Start with replacing the positive cable as well, and while your at it, make sure everything is actually wired up right.

If you remove the starter relay, have key off and replace pos terminal, does it still try to crank ?
If so, that somewhat confirms.

 

What Aerindel said - it's rarely ever the starter. Please put the OEM starter back in, the aftermarket is liable to fail in a fraction of the time.

 

Was not able to watch video earlier and while it may not matter, in the video you are attempting to put the positive cable back on when it makes the clicking noise.

What if you remove the actual negative cable from battery and with key off attempt to put positive back on....any change ?

 

The sound it's making reminds me of what happens with a failed battery and/or a battery that's under 9v-11v.

 

It does.

What happens with low voltage, is that solenoid, which only needs a little power engages, this runs full battery power to the starter, which if the battery or connections are not good, draws so much power, that the solenoid loses power, and opens the circuit....which then restores the power to the solenoid, hence the repeated clicking.

But what I'm guessing here, is that the battery is miswired, so that the battery is grounding out when the starter should be turning on.
