okay, looked into it, appears to be a company installing their own product, so unavailable for DIY. That's a shame because unlike epoxy, their product is acceptable for exterior applications. Looks like a great product tho, FWIW

 

Yes it’s pricey and proprietary, one downside.

moving all my crap out and back in was hard enough though. I didn’t mind having their crew do the work.

you are quite the capable dude so I’m sure you’d do it right but the one time I did epoxy for a friend’s garage, it turned out terrible.

They may be slightly modified but that's the main supplier who sends them their stuff. I looked into the process, IIRC they basically scuff-sand the floor 100% at every nook and cranny, lay down an on-the-fly mixture of liquid Polyurea coating, lay down the flake, then topcoat with a Polyaspartic coating. There is a time constraint on the Polyurea coating, if I understood right.

I don't see why you couldn't DIY, but you'd need to understand the mixtures, cure times, topcoat time, etc.

 

Wife minivan is the shortest and she takes the kids more frequently so she gets the center spot.

we have a dozen bikes, one tandem and one cargo bike, they get extensive use during summer, so they go in the left bay. I wouldn’t mind a shed I could stuff all the summer toys in for winter now that I live somewhere with seasons. Then I could maybe get one truck in that side for winter.

the other side has my workbench and all my bins of truck parts and jacks and stands and gear and overflow in progress stuff. And if a truck were there it’d be harder to get into / out of the van. I’d need somewhere for the shelves and workbench to clear enough space.

This matches what I saw. They also have spikes to walk on the floor while installing. The grinding / sanding didn’t seem hard, but I’m sure I would have f’d that up. And we have 3 concrete stairs which are already showing wear since they are used so much so I suspect I’ll be taking advantage of their warranty at some point in the future.

 

so..... not much better than epoxy. I do like that it's approved for exterior applications. Looks like i'll have to sell it to a customer so I can try it out..

 

Definitely the best garage floor I’ve ever had.

I got something nice done at my San Diego house but it never got driven on and it cost about the same. May have been the same product even. Got a reference from someone, CTI concrete or something. I think they did my vets office and that’s how I found them.

my wife’s van driving on it plus 40 year old slab with a few cracks plus winters and summers and south facing, this one takes a beating. It’s as good as I could hope.

I also had a Powerwashing guy do the floor with a standard Home Depot epoxy in a house I’ve since sold. They held up to wear the least but still looked better than my DIY job.

if I moved everything out and cleaned, it’d probably look pretty good. For now I just use the dewalt mini blower to get crap out. We need new garage doors pretty bad, there are big cracks on the sides and even space between panels. So pretty terrible insulation right now.

 

And the switches are lower than the plugs...

 

I can tell you, at least ... the bike situation does eventually get better. We're significantly down, now the kids aren't needing a new size bike every other year.

One of the things they shared in their video is, the warranty specifically doesn't cover substrate failure issues.

The advantages over epoxy are better resistance to temperature changes. Both seasonal (hot/cold season change) but more importantly, the temperature swings that come from pulling on top of it with hot tires.

 

You guys and your garages. Get out in the elements like a real man!

I'm an organized mofo unlike you borderline hoarders. I hate clutter. All my tools are hanging on the opposite wall. What's the point in filling a garage with useless junk only to park our vehicles outside?





My cabinets are full of shit which helps hide what would otherwise be clutter. It took me 7 years before I had the money for those garage cabinets.

 

Be grateful bro. At least you have space where you can move around. I basically had to utilize a closet in our basement to build a "shop" space for myself, after we remodeled so the kids could have a rec room, and my wife a reduced-size gym space.

You're lucky you don't have kids (yet, if y'all even intend to). You lose a shedload of space to stuff ... scooters, skateboards, bikes, tents, sports stuff, all kinds of crap.

I'd love to be able to work on, say, my suspension, while in the garage, easily, without having to back out and shift sides. As-is, my front bumper is about 1/4" from the wall. And while I could probably hang up the extension ladder on that wall (there's a LOT of electric feed and our main panel in that wall, hence why nothing is hanging on it), I'm still cramming to do anything on the truck. Can't even open the driver door all the way. Ceilings are semi-high, but not high enough to do any considerable amount of overhead storage when you consider the garage doors go 2/3 - 3/4 deep along the roof.

Can you guys not hang the bikes from the ceiling? Our friends have 3 kids and they have a TON of stuff in their garage. They are able to park both vehicles in the garage but every inch is utilized. They installed several of those ceiling mounted storage cages which freed up a ton of space on the floor. It's actually pretty impressive how much stuff they have mounted up high.

 

Re: bikes, two are mine, also 2 hanging from the ceiling. Then the Tandem is basically mine. The cargo bike is super useful. And quick access is key to encourage the kids to ride. Plus we have two for the cousins since our street has a circle which is super friendly and it’s a dead end road so minimal traffic. So, 4 kid bikes and two adult bikes plus a tandem on a pair of floor racks then the cargo bike charging. And shelves and overflow home improvement project materials and skis and stuff on the shelves on that side. And my toolbox and a garage fridge. I definitely want one garage bay for bikes during the summer.

I have toyed with the idea of bikes on the other side and a dedicated garage spot for one truck. Just super hard to decide which one I’d put in there. The ‘05 would fit best and since it’s 2wd it is easier to not park on dirt.

bro in law recently acquired a dump trailer and tractor so I think doing gravel for the side parking spots is possible before winter hits.

But a shed for bikes in the winter and work in the summer while kids are out of school, that may be a possibility too.

of course 2000 sq ft of shop space would have been even better

 

My wife wants me to postpone my vasectomy. I was almost in the clear.

 

I have 4 on my cycle glide. Fine for adult bikes. But kids won’t be able to handle that and it discourages them from quick grab and ride. Cargo bike needs to charge and is way too heavy. Tandem is long as F and w lights up I haven’t solved for a ceiling mount. But I’d like to get that squared for winter.

for hydraulic brakes, hanging upside down is annoying. Takes a while after righting to get the brakes working and it tends to lose fluid faster. Plus with kid bikes on the floor, f it, just burn a spot.

 

Add some cabinets to that back wall and 90% of your small stuff could go in there. Otherwise it looks like you're making good use of that space.

The only thing I see that's not Shifty approved is the green stains on the driveway.

 

See updated pic, I probably posted while you were typing. I basically laid a 2x4 across joists on the ceilings and dropped the rubberized J-hooks, and that lets me run 5 bikes vertical, those are the kids and wife's bikes and a parts bike I need to tear down. I've also got my main bike up and to the right on a lift, for errands and hauling. The others two in the corner are a vintage MTB I use periodically I'm converting to 1x12, and a really impossible to find 90s titanium-framed bike for go-fast MUP riding/long rides when a couple of my spandex friends cajole me into going for a long-distance ride.

Yeah, I need to pressure wash. It's a losing battle though. I've held off 4-5 years out back, it's overdue.

And only reason you don't see anything on that back wall is because the electrical panel for the entire house is in that wall, main feed (blue line) and all the alternate feeds for nearly everything in the house following the green lines, although I didn't get them all pictured. You get the idea though ... anything significant needs to be screwed in a good 2"-3", so risk of hitting lines, and honestly ... I also don't want to block that little white box on the wall (shop broom hanle points up at it) because that's the ventilation for my data closet.

My bad, I missed that in your last post. That does make it tough. I just pressure washed my entire driveway. It took 8 hours. I need one of those made for driveways.

 

I was eyeballing those, I'm tempted to buy one, then leave my job to start a pressure washing business. They're really cool, but too $$ for me.

But I've got it too cushy with my job to leave and get a normal job at this point.

I will say, what helped cut the time I was spending in half was getting one of these - it basically creates a wide spiral pattern; it doesn't get down and deep-clean like a 15° nozzle will, but it also does a huge swath of area 400% larger than a 30° tip, sadly only about 80% of the penetration depth. Disclaimer though: You do not want to put any body part within 18" of this thing while running. It *will* needle you with water which can have some dire consequences (i.e. flesh rot, amputation required).

 

I think alot of the problem with epoxy outside is the UV rays breaking it down. It even states on their paperwork that it shouldn't be used in places exposed to direct sunlight for long periods, above being interior only. After its cured, I dont think temps really affect it. I mean, even in a garage, you're still pulling onto it with hot tires, right? I dunno.

 

I'm solely regurgitating what was shared in the Penntek and Webfoot videos, and one other video I caught that was comparing polyurea vs. polyaspartic vs. epoxy. Tire burn (IIRC) was supposedly the big issue with epoxy.

They have smaller surface cleaners that work well. Not as fast as the big guys but a lot faster than any tip.

Yeah, my understanding is Epoxy starts to yellow and degrade with sun exposure. I have researched the hell out of all the options. Polyurea is what I came up with as the best option. My 2 car garage was quoted $2600 to be professionally done, same day turnaround. They shot blast it and no dry time. 15yr warranty, from a long standing solid company. I want to DIY it, but it would take me over a week to diamond grind and wash it and give the proper amount of dry time. That leaves the problem of storing all my shit somewhere during that time.

 

Weird. I either got a message from a girlfriend of 22 years ago or somehow AT&T just sent me a 22 yr old voicemail.

My guess is neither, however the voice sounds exactly like her and she was commenting on a dead bird in her garden where I grew a squash for her.
