My always reliable 2007 CM 4x4 had an interesting event this morning and I was hoping that maybe someone here could provide some insight. Went out this morning and backed the truck out of the driveway to wash it. Temp was about 50 degrees, backed out and pulled back in to a more favorable position, then shut the truck off, only ran for about 1 minute.

A couple of hours later, after washing the truck, I jumped back in and started it up, it fired right up and revved like a cold engine, to about 1500 rpm, and then just died, like someone turned off the key. A second try exact same thing and also on a third try. Finally I went in the house and let it sit for about 10 minutes, went back out tried it, and it fired up and ran just like usual. I did take it for a ride (which I never mind doing) and got everything warmed up. I returned home and shut it down, retried it, and it seems to be running fine now.

I am baffled as to what it could be. At no time did a check engine light come on and when you turned the key just the usual dashboard lights come on and then turn off as normal. I did fill up yesterday at the Shell station where I always go.

Only thing I could think of is Vapor Lock, and that would be a first in 53 years of driving.

Almost sounds like something got wet when you washed it, then dried out.

Really sounds like something got wet, or some ignition kill / security feature was activated. Vapor lock would not be on my radar. Use to be a thing in carbureted vehicles, but even then your motor would have to be running hotter than just moving it for a wash.

Where are you that it’s 50*? Super envious.

Check your alternator too. Had mine in the Tacoma go out and had same symptoms. After a couple days it was losing power coming back from lunch. That afternoon it didn’t want to go over 10 without shaking like crazy. Had such low voltage it was running right. New battery didn’t help. The alternator did it.

A bad or failing fuel pump will exhibit those same behaviors. If it persists, that’s what I would check.

Key issue? There's a tell-tale that involves the red security light near the digital clock that's been posted several times here.
