Anyone else waiting 6 months for a second fob?

Just sharing something that I thought was interesitng...

My sister just bought one of the small Lexus SUVs (new) and they gave her 1 traditional key fob and 1 RFID card (similiar to what Tesla gives). The RFID card is a temporary "placeholder" for the 2nd key fob that will come in a few months. The card gives someone the ability to unlock the doors when they touch the handle and start the car. Obviously, it doesn't allow for distance commands that require buttons like unlock from far away, open the tailgate, or remote start, etc.

However, I thought it was an interesting "temporary solution" until they send her the 2nd fob. I don't know if Toyota would do that across all models or if it's just something they do for the Lexus brand. I'm assuming it's just for the luxury brand, but would be nice to see across the line up.

 

lexus always had a rfid card you could put in your wallet to replace a fob. you look around the taco and 4runner (and i think tundra) forums you can find hacks to use that same lexus rfid card to function as a fob.

Was told on Tuesday 3/28, that my 2nd Fob would arrive this summer. Someone will probably make another "aftermarket" Fob that can sync with our existing fobs/truck.

 

Was reading the other day, you can get a device from China that the thiefs are using that costs $22 and allows you to clone your fob....

 

Toyota's are really hard to clone, not impossible. The fobs have been pushed back based on available parts. Keep in mind that toyotas only recognize 2 key fobs so if you program another one when you already have two fobs, one of the remaining will un-program. Toyota is going to communicate with us customers and not the dealership is how the verbiage went. A lot like how customers hear about recalls before salesman.

 

most toyota's can maintain 4-5 fobs in the ecu

 

I called Toyota Customer Service last Saturday. According to the Customer Service Associate said in May that Toyota will be sending out a letter to all who only got one key fob with their Tundra. In the letter it will give you instructions to schedule an appointment with the Toyota Dealership of your choice to have a second Key Fob programmed. So, in May keep checking the mail for the letter.

 

I was told end of April is when they get shipped out. Got our Sequoia delivered in December with one fob.

 

I have tried it and I can't share it with my wife. If you add someone as a guest then they have the remote ability and you don't. Once you pull their access to guest mode the primary has to re-register. This is not a good user experience in my opinion.

 

So, it's May. Anyone start getting those second fobs?

 

The last post I read (other thread) op stated he was told by toyota “late summer”. When I called, I was told “sometime this summer” and could not get her to nail down a month for “summer”.

 

Mean while, (Sarcasm) Toyota Tundra sales are way up. Hmm......wonder where our second Key FOBS are going

 

Just got my 23 Pro this week w/ just 1 fob and a key. Salesman told me I should be getting my 2nd key fob in July.

 

You won’t get a fob. You will get a letter to take to your dealer authorizing him to get you the 2nd fob. That will be the start of the 2nd CF over fobs.

 

What happens when she loses her purse or it gets stolen?

 

well tough luck for her

1. if we are going out i usually grab it an put it on my carbineer
2. she only takes her purse to work or short trips to the store
3. not too worried about it getting stolen up here in ND compared to the big cities, more worried about cats stolen or door checkers

fun fact, the place she worked they stole all the cats from the delivery panel trucks one night since they like to park them out of sight of the security cams, that changed pretty quick

 

yeah kinda defeats the purpose really.

should have been like the door lock feature i have, add a guest keypad entry and then delete it.

 

I agree it is completely pointless...

 

I picked my truck up 11/12/22 and still haven't received a letter about my second fob. Hopefully I'll see the letter in the next couple of weeks.

 

should have been a sticker with the notice on it.

 

I purchased mine in November with no sticker. I didn't find out until I was handed the key to drive away.

Did anyone finally get their FOB? If so, how long did it take?

 

Picked up my Platinum Crewmax 8/12/23
(6/23 build date), was told I should get my second fob in the first quarter of 2024.

 

Got my 23 CM SR5 back in November of 22, and still no update on 2nd fob. I was first told end of December 22, then the end of January 23. Then it was pushed to end of March. I called again and it was pushed to June of 23. I called in June and was told I should be receiving a letter by August with a fulfillment date of September 23. Still no communication of any sort from Toyota in nearly 10 months. I have had to make all of the contact.

I'm starting to think that we will never get our 2nd fob. Toyota has not acknowledged it an any capacity to date and they are probably hoping most of us forget and just go buy the 2nd one out of pocket. Unless someone files a class action lawsuit, not sure what for, it will be a long time before any of us get them.

 

A former member had posted a chart with Toyota's timetable to send the fobs, but that information and member have been scrubbed from the site. Long story. But bottom line, the chart showed that Tundras made in the timeframe you got yours and I got mine were to receive the fobs in August. Like now. But I am not holding my breath and August is almost gone.

 

When I picked up my new 2023 DC TRD today, the salesman told me that he was advised that Toyota will be shipping out all of the backordered fobs in the next two months. I got the insert for the second fob and he told me the second fob (electronic part) is coming in a month or two

 

Don't get your hopes up

 

Exactly, when you don't get one in that timeframe and go ask the dealer what gives, he is likely to reprise the line from Animal House: you fucked up... you trusted us.
