Air bag over rear springs and anti sway bar
Hi All.....I have been towing the Northwoods RV trailer (6800lbs dry) for around 30k miles with the original shocks and air bag helpers over the leaf springs. Towing on a windy day can be a white knuckle adventure. After reading this forum I decided to up grade the suspention shocks and added a Helwig anti-sway bar......1.125 diameter. I used the bilstein 5100 series shocks both front and rear. Yes I did my own strut change.....no big deal! Well today we just got home from a 1.5 hour trip from the columbus area to our home north. The wind was from the west blowing like a SOB and even the semis were swaying a little. The cool thing was that the truck rode very stable and the white knuckle driving is now over with. You RV and heavy trailer towers are missing the handling improvement if you are riding with the factory stuff. I told my wife what pleasure it is to drive with 8000lbs connected with no fear of that uneasy feeling of the trailer pushing around the truck on windy days. 70MPH Money well spent!

Some of the other improvements were the Hankook trailer tires rated at 80 psi and providing another 1MPG.....no BS! And the truck has Cooper Discoverer AT3xlt running at 80psi. This was also the first time I used the LSD with the traction controll off gaining another 50hp.

    This forum is great!

Can you please post some pictures of the frame to sway bar mounts including some side views? Kinda curious if I could get it to fit in conjunction with RAS or Roadmaster Active Suspension. BTW you might want to take a look at RAS.

Good looking trailer. We just picked up a Nash (also a NW product) that weighs about the same. Truck does great; I've got the RAS installed.
