Aight well, I just came back from Best Buy.

Walked in, scoped the display, over to the TV service desk since car audio was empty, and pulled up the photo shared earlier for the

$1,499 Kenwood DMX1037S 10.1" High Definition Car Stereo Receiver with Capacitive Touch Panel

Kenwood DMX1037S on my phone, guy pulled it up by the SKU, ordered it into store pickup saying it'll arrive sooner (August 26th estimate) and I was walking out with a receipt less than 5 minutes total in the store. Done and done, no quibbling over the very low price.

After I hold a little bonfire for my dead Dasaita - what what do I need to buy to install this guy? I'm assuming something to mount it into the space (trim/double-to-single din adapter?) some wiring harnesses and - a Maestro thing for steering wheel controls? RR2 something?

Cam adapter is not needed - not sure on the VIM bypass. @BiggHertz do you have the skinny on the Kenwood setup?

I did the same. Ordered the gear yesterday and it’s supposed to show up tomorrow. I’m hoping for a slow Friday at work so I can get started

I went ahead and ordered most of the stuff from Crutchfield, but went with the Dasaita kit for the trim from Amazon, and an HDMI-switch insert that should fit in the dash switches, RetroPi plans there (or maybe just a Chromecast). Skipped the USB-Toyota adapter because I've already got a working one. Pumped about adding the side cameras under my mirrors and am scouting around for inexpensive but reliable ones that'll fit the space inside the mirror housing, I see the RR2 and Kenwood say they're compatible with each other to swap the screen to cam input with turn signal activation, which is probably the only feature I've ever missed from my old Honda Pilot.

 

I thought I read about people swapping out the brackets but fuck if I know what website I was looking at. Talk about a damn rabbit hole. I almost started drinking again.
