Just installed the SDHQ hood bulge kit with a Baja Designs S8, but now the added weight is too much for the struts to hold the hood up. Anybody else have this issue?

As far as replacing the struts, any suggestions on heavier duty ones?

    Thanks

You just need to replace the hood struts. Oem is fine. When new, there is plenty enough to hold the hood up.

    Right on, thanks!

Mine comes down every now and then. I'll replace the struts, probably after it hits me in the head. Those things ain't cheap.

I just completed a similar install, and have the same concern. While my hood opens, and stays open (for now), it closes with the lightest touch. A year, or two, from now, who knows?

Evidently, OEMs are 58 lbs struts. These just may work: 72 lbs, approx. 1/3" longer extended, several inches shorter compressed: https://www.liftsupportsdepot.com/2...port-with-10mm-claw-ball-sockets-pm3551s10-w/ My concern with installing these would be that my hood might open too quickly/forcefully. In which case, just remember to hang on until it's fully open.

I've had my S8 installed for almost 2 years on my 2020 and haven't had any issues at all with the hood struts. The S8 is not that heavy.

Good to know. I've got no issues either, just concern. My hood definitely opens slower and closes much, mush easier with the bulge light installed. Gas struts do wear out. I think what I linked to may be a viable replacement option, and might answer @ricericebaby question: "suggestions for heavier duty ones?"

Mine has only been in place for a couple months, but the truck is old. 2018 with almost 140K on the clock. Hood struts are just great with the SDHQ and S8 in the bulge. I also have Squadron lights with SDHQ ditch mount brackets to add a little more weight, and it’s still totally fine.
