My 2021 recently exhibited an issue with remote start on the FOB no longer working, I do not pay for connected services because remote start on the FOB is all that is needed. For those with these year models of trucks you may remember having to install the app and enroll in Toyota's connected services trial to have the 10 year function on the remote start of the fob.

Well, about a week ago for the first time in a year, I decided to go into the Toyota app. It prompted me to upgrade the app, I went ahead and did the upgrade but then lost track and never completed the setup. Today, when I decided to use the remote start of the truck to cool things down it wouldn't work, didn't matter how far or close, or at what speed I hit the buttons, it refused to remote start.

Once I got home, I remembered having to jump through all the hoops to enroll in connected services and realized that maybe in the new app, I need to accept all that stuff again. Well long story short, yes, you do. You have to go into the app and allow the 10 year maintenance connected services and sign of on all Toyota's tracking of your location. Once all of the above was done, my remote start now works again.

    TL-DR
If you decide to update your Toyota App on your phone, you may be locked out of remote start on the FOB until you jump through all the hoops of re-enrolling in their 10-year maintenance plan and accept all of Toyota's location services and submitting of vehicle data to Toyota.

If you have an actual key and want to have remote start withouth the Toyota app you can install the plug and play kit from 12volt solutions. Best part is it doesnt shut off when the door opens like the factory remote start.

Sadly I dont have that option, all vehicles with push button start have the factory remote start, dont believe the 12 volt kit will work for me. I dont like that it shuts off when i open the door but its no so much an annoyance that its worth paying for a third party system. But i must say, the truck knows when the keys in the truck, ill never understand why they couldnt have just programmed the truck to shut off if you went into Drive without the fob inside the truck. It would accomplish the same goal of preventing theft.

Oh I'm sorry I thought you had one with a key! The 12volt kit will work with the the push button models but it will still shut off when the door is opened.
