Looking for advice and opinions on long tubes here ( Ha! Can't wait! @hagrid). Thinking I have ruled out a supercharger and will keep my truck NA for longevity reasons. The plan is long tubes with high flow cats, DD dual exhaust, 5.29 gears, IPT HP valve body, deep pan, and a custom tune. So, who makes the best 5.7 headers for the long haul?

Color preference? Cuz it's going to determine length.

    Also, monstrous girth.

I have the Stainless Works headers and high flow cats but I've only had them on for a few months. Only thing I can say is pay attention to where the O2 sensor port is on the LTH, you'll get some AFR oscillation the further back it is from the original position. If you don't have a wideband gauge you probably wont notice it.

Those are exactly what I was thinking of using also. Still have a lot of research to do, but hopefully something such as the Underdog Racing Development MAF sensor calibrator will allow for getting AFR's set for the best overall results. Thanks for your post and your many other inspirational and informative posts! Much appreciated!

I'm not familiar with that MAF device so I can't comment but not sure messing with the MAF would fix what I am seeing.

On the SW LTHs the O2 bung is after the collector (several inches from the stock position) so the ECU is seeing a delayed reading of AFRs. The delay seems to make the ECU overcompensate on adjustments so you get this oscillation effect after the ECU responds to the overcompensation. Idles fine so it isn't really noticable unless you are running an AFR gauge. I think Scan gauge can pick it up too. Relocating the O2 sensor with a new bung higher up on the header is one way I've seen the issue fixed.

As far as what is on the market for headers I've seen Kooks, American Racing Headers (ARH), Doug Thorley (I've seen shorties but I think they make long tubes too) and I think one more. @dirtydeeds has commented on the build quality of some of these in the past. You can ping him for more details since he probably sees more installs than my one off case.

Sounds wise I thought the SW would be too much but they aren't too bad cruising around. Definitely a deeper tone. They do sound like an angry scream emanating from the maw of hell when you get on the gas though. Windows down for full effect. Video audio wont do the sound justice since the audio gets compressed.

Performance wise I only picked up about ~10WHP but I'm running a blower. You might pick up more since you are NA.

I did pick up about ~.5 to ~1 MPG which shocked me. If I'm not deleting gas I can get 14 City fairly easy. May not be all headers if the headers at all since I had to get retuned for other mods I had made.

Good luck and happy hunting. Hopefully you get some more response form others running LTHs.

Thanks again! I think you were trying to think of JBA as the other one. As for Keith, my plan is to definitely reach out to him for advice and pricing when I get closer. He might even know something about the URD MAF device or something else that will work to get the best AFR's. Kinda starting to think that I should probably do the Solid off-road engine mounts too. What do you think? Never fails, one thing leads to ten others!:annoyed:

ARH, Kooks and SW stand alone headers all neck neck down to the much smaller stock mid pipes. So for true large pipe (3” or 2.5”) you’d have to have it custom made (like DD race exhaust). ARH has a full setup that doesn’t neck down to stock but is not 3” apparently, may be good to go for naturally aspirated though.

Thanks! I will check out the ARH and also speak with Keith when I get things narrowed down a bit more.

I’m anxiously awaiting a custom DD dual 3” race exhaust which is supposed to arrive next few weeks. I’m excited for the noise complaints!

Yes a 1.9L Magnuson + some other upgrades so I'll likely be in the 650-700hp crank range with the headers and retune. Will be a hoot (until something blows up). A dealer installed Magnuson is a pretty nice plug and play 550hp (for 10K usually including tax and install), if the person keeps it as-is should be same reliability as stock.

I've not seen any Tundra trucks run that high without E85 or a built engine. Looking forward to your findings.

Theortically I was in the 650-700 crank HP range...with Bullydog 93 crap tune. Kaboomb went the engine.

Yeah I'm impressed by the numbers I've seen posted **while in Mexico**. Tundra is a big heavy truck, seeing #s in the low to mid 4s is crazy to me. It is not like these folks are running street tires and stripped vehicles.

Depends on what we think driveline loss is though. 20% loss would mean pushing ~580WHP, impressive and hopefully safe.

Running LT's with a decent exhaust by itself was great and woke the 5.7 up. It left you wanting more.

@Saltyhero13 . A little bit after mine went Viktorg blew his. There was the initial confusion on what size injectors(480 or 535) and fuel pump limitations. I thought it may have been fuel pump related but was later told that the Bullydog 93 tune was most likely cause.

The bullydog tune is a generic canned tune. If you are going FI, get an actual custom tune.
