Adding set of brakes and maybe a Hydro/Surge system - advice?

    Hey everybody!

    I am planning a trip to Marathon FL for a couple weeks next year. I currently have a Sea Hunt Triton 210 on a McClain trailer. I am pulling it with a 2018 Toyota Tundra SR5 Crewmax. The boat and trailer weight is around 4350 lbs. The GCVW (truck and trailer) is 10,780 lbs (not officially put on a scale yet). That number will go up with extra gear, likely loaded in the boat.

    The 2015 surge brake trailer has disc brakes on one axle and vault hubs. It has approx. 1000 miles on it. I know Florida requires brakes on all axles, so I am planning on adding a set to the other axle.

    The truck rating is:

    GVWR - 7200

    Truck GCVW max – 16000

    Max Towing – 9800

    Gross Axle front- 4000

    Gross Axle rear – 4150

    Should I stick with surge brakes or upgrade to Hydraulic/Surge brakes? Should I upgrade the disc brakes to stainless steel all the way around if I change? Is there any need for an anti-sway hitch? I am mostly in fresh water with an occasional trip to salt.

    Any recommendations on what Hydraulic/Surge brakes to go with along with disc brakes?

    I am curious if anyone has a similar setup as mine. The trip will be 1500 miles one way. I plan on doing it in 2-4 days.

    I run electric over hydraulic brakes on my boat trailers. If you get the salt rated ones (a little more expensive) and rinse them each time you put them in salt they will last a long time. As for functionality and safety, there is no comparison to surge brakes of any kind. EOH brakes are required on every trailer over 9900lbs where I live.
