Isn't Missouri cold for 1/3 of the year? Like, bonafide winter, with freezing temps? And you switched to a 10?
    What does "personal reasons" mean?
    Did your doc recommend it?

    Based on a 5k OCI

    Crap: Dollor Store Brand

    Good: CostCo or Supertec brands

Gooder: Conventional Name Brand (Mobil1, Castrol, Valvoline, Pensoil etc.)

Better: Full Synthetic Name Brand (Mobil1, Castrol, Valvoline, Pensoil etc.)

Best: Synthetic “Boutique” Brand (Amsoil, Redline etc.)

this is just my opinions and based on my experience

I’m no mechanic, I’m a Foundry Furnace Operator by trade, I melt metal and make airplane parts. But I’ve changed a shit ton of oil with 3k intervals. That’s the way my dad did it and the way my grandpa did it. I’ve never heard my dad or grandpa say they had to take the car or truck into the shop for engine repairs. Granted we have always owned Toyota trucks and cars. I doubt that I have the credentials you are looking for but I hope it helps

My countenance beams down upon this thread with pride and satisfaction.

3rd gen spun bearing threads can't touch this.

Well, neither have most of us. Its usually everything else that falls apart around the engine.

agreed but I’m assuming an oil thread is talking about the longevity of an engine based on the oil used in said engine

Sure seems to be a LOT of conflating of "cheap" and "inexpensive."

That's pretty cool. Definitely more interesting than what oil people use.
However, I have more shit to stir.

Funny, just today I was talking to someone about when I was a 20 yr old kid and working with a 70 yr old man that was a retired maintenance mechanic (the guy knew everything). I learned a lot by being his helper when I could.
Anyway, my BIL who hired him) asked him to build a furnace to melt scrap transmission housings into ingots. He did and we melted a whole bunch of scrap. He pretty much built the thing from the ground up and got it to run on used oil/fuel oil.
Until the FD showed up and said we couldn't just build a gaint furnace in the middle of a warehouse and produce giant plumes of white, toxic smoke. Fun killers.
Turns out, aluminum auto parts have more than just aluminum in them.

It’s the same on the vintage Porsche forums except flat tappet engines need high levels of ZDDP. Everyone has an opinion. For me Brad Penn 20W50 Green Dino in the old Porsche and full synthetic 5W30 in all my others. Everyone has an opinion and believe everyone else’s stinks.

Like John Hancock or oils? We can’t agree on regular synthetics and you want to bring signature series into the mix? This thread will last forever that’s for sure.

Northern Missouri is like Iowa, cold and snowy. Southern Missouri is like Oklahoma, not near as cold.

I’m in KC and use 5W-30 year around and it does fine. I do let it run for a couple of minutes when leaving the office in the winter. Other than that, start and go.

Now wait a minute, that was uncalled for, gang. I know a lot of people who live in trailers, in fact half of South Carolina does and they're wonderful people! In this economy it's great to even have a trailer if you can afford one.
